Wayne Rooney’s future is still unclear at Manchester United. One week we hear the 27-year-old is ready to quit the Premier League champions for pastures new, the next he is ready to stay if the club issue an apology over this end of season transfer request which Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed happened – a move Rooney recently claimed never did.
Surprisingly, Arsenal are waiting to see what Rooney decides to do this summer and are prepared to fight both Chelsea and newly Real Madrid for his signature. The Daily Mail even suggests The Gunners are ready to test United’s resolve this week with an opening £20 million bid.
It is thought Arsene Wenger wants to bring in Rooney and play him behind Gonzalo Higuain, who is on the verge of sealing a £22 million move to Arsenal.
Wenger does not see Rooney as a traditional centre-forward but as a link man between midfield and attack, the position the player himself prefers to operate in.
Even the player’s wages of around £220k-a-week has not put off Wenger and co. as the club are in a very secure financial position.
Taking this all into account, should Arsenal attempt to sign Rooney?
