Wayne Rooney’s future is still unclear at Manchester United. One week we hear the 27-year-old is ready to quit the Premier League champions for pastures new, the next he is ready to stay if the club issue an apology over this end of season transfer request which Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed happened – a move Rooney recently claimed never did.
Surprisingly, Arsenal are waiting to see what Rooney decides to do this summer and are prepared to fight both Chelsea and newly Real Madrid for his signature. The Daily Mail even suggests The Gunners are ready to test United’s resolve this week with an opening £20 million bid.
It is thought Arsene Wenger wants to bring in Rooney and play him behind Gonzalo Higuain, who is on the verge of sealing a £22 million move to Arsenal.
Wenger does not see Rooney as a traditional centre-forward but as a link man between midfield and attack, the position the player himself prefers to operate in.
Even the player’s wages of around £220k-a-week has not put off Wenger and co. as the club are in a very secure financial position.
Taking this all into account, should Arsenal attempt to sign Rooney?

Nope. Wages are too high. He could be very good but he’s no Ronaldo or Messi and there’s always the risk that he could lose interest as he has done at Utd. Then we would have completely screwed our wage structure for nothing. If we’re going to break the wage structure, do it for someone like Falcao who’s practically guaranteed to be a hit, not for Rooney, who’s only ever been a very good player – he has few too many “English golden boy” points from the press and fans and his talent has thus been blown a bit out of proportion. Also it would make the RVP sale look even more ridiculous imo. Why would we only offer Robin (who’s clearly the better player) half what we’d have to pay Rooney?
Well, i’d like to see rooney join us as he would contribute hugely to our attacking force alongside higuain. hope to see him join us.

Please don’t sign Rooney. He is past his prime and acts like a petulant brat when he doesn’t get his own way. He used to be a good player but, like most Utd players, his ego gets in the way.
No thanks. Higuain is a far better option.

I think Rooney will be a great addition to the squad. Playing him upfront behind Higuan could be just the combination we need.
He is very experienced & has that aggression that Arsenal is lacking!!!!
Our front row lacks premier league experience. If the trio pack are signed ( which i hope), then this season coming is going to be really interesting!!!! 3 “new” managers in the top four clubs, interesting tranfers, hopefully the Spurs losing Bale.
