Laurent Koscielny has told Arsenal that he will consider leaving the club unless they start challenging for trophies.
The French centre-back joined the club back in 2010 from Lorient and this season pulled out some superb performances for us this term. So good in fact that he has been able to keep club captain Thomas Vermaelen out of the side. His performances in the last half of the season have not gone unnoticed, with Bayern Munich keen on the France international this summer. And with the Bundesliga champions and Champions League winners interested, Koscielny, who despite saying he ‘feels good’ at Arsenal, claims he will be off unless they start, realistically, challenging for silverware.
He was quoted in the Metro yesterday saying:
‘I want to win a championship. I don’t want to be fighting like we have this season because it was very tiring psychologically.
‘I feel good at Arsenal, if we have ambition to fight against the other teams of course I want to stay here.
‘I have the desire to add to my list of honours. I hope the club will give me the means. If this weren’t the case, I’d look elsewhere.’
According to recent reports, Bayern are preparing a £15 million move for the 27-year-old, who still has four-years left to run on his current deal at The Emirates, and it seems it could be a struggle to hand on to him.
To be honest, we can forget about keeping any of our big-name players in the near future unless we start lifting some trophies. We need to start delivering and give the players what they want, otherwise the recurrence of losing our star players at the end of every season will unfortunately continue.
Hopefully the club can give Kos what he wants next season and keep him out of Bayern’s clutches.
