THREE men who could potentially replace Sagna

|

2. Stephan Lichtsteiner

This guy has bags and bags and bags of energy, superb stamina and his fitness levels are one of the best I’ve seen in a long, long time. Because of his athleticism, the 29-year-old has earned the nicknames ‘Forrest Gump’ and ‘The Swiss Express’. He reminds me of a modern day Cafu!

Despite another successful season at Juventus, winning the Serie A title and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, it is believed Lichsteiner’s time in Turin is coming to an end.

In January there were several rumours flying around suggesting he was unhappy at the lack of game time he was seeing at Juve, which may see him look for a change of scenery this summer.

It is thought Arsenal are keeping an eye on Lichsteiner’s situation and are pondering a reported £12 million summer move for the Switzerland international.

If for some reason Juve do put him on the market then Wenger should seriously consider signing him.

He would be an ideal replacement for Sagna because of his attributes stressed above, as well as being an experience world class full-back which will add to our attacking play.

3. Ignazio Abate

Like Lichsteiner, Abate is bursting with energy, is light on his feet and poses a real attacking threat, as well as possessing defensive ability. He loves to get forward and can deliver some excellent crosses into the opponent’s penalty area (unlike Sagna).

His current deal at AC Milan expires at the end of next season and with no signs of extending his stay or the club offering him a new deal, the Rossoneri COULD look to move him on instead of running the risk of losing him on a free next summer.

The 26-year-old has been a regular for Milan since joining them from Torino in 2009, making over 150 appearances in all competitions for the Rossoneri.

It is thought Abate will be available at a cut-price of around £8 million this summer as Milan look to balance their books. And with the prospect of bringing in either Parma’s Cristian Zaccardo or Newcastle’s Davide Santon this summer, and progressing youngster Mattia De Sciglio to the first-team next season, Abate’s future at the San Siro could well be up.

If he is available for £8 million and with only Zenit are interested, Wenger would be foolish not to consider a swoop for the Italian international who can potentially make the right-back position at The Emirates his only for many years to come.
