Arsenal have unveiled their new home strip for next season’s campaign, and Robin van Persie is modelling it!

The main body of the shirt is red with a blue a collar, while the sleeves are white but feature a red and blue hoop. The design is inspired by the home kit socks worn in the 1930’s under iconic manager Herbert Chapman.

On the outer back neck there is a white graphic which references the ‘WM’ formation which Chapman establised, along with the inner back graphic featuring the club’s long-held motto since 1948 ‘Victoria Concordia Crescit’ which translated to ‘Victory Through Harmony’.

Not a lot of imagination has gone in to the design of the shorts as they remain completely white, but it’s great to see that Nike and the club have come to their senses and abandoned the proposed black socks by going with a traditional white base with a red and blue hoop near the shin area, thus corresponding well with the shirt.

Theo Walcott likes the new design and the addition of the blue, claiming it gives the kit a real ‘British feel’:

‘I think the blue in particular in the kit reflects a British feel for the Club in a massive year for the home nations with the Olympics this summer.’

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain added:

‘I think this kit is really nice – it is a little bit different.

‘The blue has been on the home kit before but maybe not for a few years.

‘It’s quite a historic element to the kit if you look back to the 30s and part of the club crest so it is nice to have it back.’

Although it looks like a basic design, it is a stylish one in my opinion. My only criticism of it is that it doesn’t feature our current crest.

In any case I will be purchasing it when it becomes available in stores – just have to think what I want to put on the back of it!

Here are the lads having some target practise with the new strip on:
