Nicollin hopes to keep this Arsenal target for at least one more year

|

The owner of Montpellier hopes to see Olivier Giroud stay at least one more season with the French club, albeit interest from Arsenal.

Montpellier currently sit top of Ligue 1, three points ahead of second placed PSG and a massive 13 from Lyon, who sit fourth, and will almost certainly be playing Champions League football next season.

Due to his goal-scoring form for the French side this season, Giroud has attracted the attentions of several big clubs. The likes of Newcastle, Bayern Munich and Marseille have all been linked with a move for the Frenchman.

However, Louis Nicollin is determined to keep his prized asset for at least another season and make Arsenal wait:

He told French radio station RMC SPORTS:

‘He is a smart kid and I hope he stays here.

‘When we play in the Champions League he will help us progress further and I hope he stays another year.’

The France international’s contract with Montpellier doesn’t expire until 2014 and was once valued by Nicollin between £42-50 million.

And with the Euros coming up, which Giroud will surely feature in, Arsenal’s chance of landing the French ace will more than likely decrease.
