Why I can’t see this man leaving Arsenal

Arsenal’s key player this season has of course been Robin van Persie.

It is obvious to see that without his astonishing goal tally of 27 goals in the Premier League alone, we would definitely be languishing somewhere in mid-table.

Perhaps because of this, and the fact that his current contract finishes at the end of the 2012/13 season, speculation has arisen over his future at the club, with many suggesting that he will leave in the summer if Arsene Wenger doesn’t get his wallet out.

Manchester City have shown interest in signing the 28-year-old, as well as the usual clubs on the continent, with the latest being high-rollers PSG. However, I don’t think he will leave the club this summer, and here’s why.

Firstly, on the note of clubs showing interest in making an offer, I can’t see him going to Man City. Even if they do make an offer, which I think is unlikely as they already have Sergio Aguero (who I think has been really good for them this year), a resurgent Carlos Tevez, and even Mario Balotelli, who could become a great player if he gets his temper under control, amongst their ranks. These three are all ‘world class’ strikers, and I can’t see City selling any of them, as Tevez seems to have been forgiven, and Roberto Mancini is too fond of Balotelli.

This means that RVP may not get consistent first-team football at City. Look at Samir Nasri. The Frenchman left Arsenal for, as far as I can see, two things – money and titles. He gets the money by just sitting on the bench, which he has done a lot of since his move to City, but it doesn’t look like City are going to win the title this year, even if United do slip up big time.

In fact, going by our recent form, RVP might be better off staying at Arsenal if he wants to win something. Even if we don’t make any new signings, we have Jack Wilshere coming back into the side, which will strengthen our midfield even further, and, by the way the team has played in the second half of this season, I can really see us making a strong challenge for a trophy next season.

So he shouldn’t go to City, but what about the money and titles in the other leagues?

Should he head to Barcelona or Real Madrid and have a good chance of winning the Champions League? Again, I don’t think so. He is our captain, and has constantly said that he loves the club for what it has given him. You might say that this was the same with Cesc Fabregas, but he had a deeper reason for joining Barcelona (that being his boyhood club), and this was probably too strong of a bond for him to resist (not forgetting the money and titles of course!). But RVP doesn’t have these strong ties with any other club.

If anything, it is for Arsenal that he would feel these same ties are strong. The fact that he is adored by the fans and is guaranteed to play, unless he is injured or resting for a bigger occasion, should also go far in helping him make the right decision to stay at the club.

Overall, although it does look as though we will have a very productive summer transfer window, with the Lukas Podolski deal practically sealed, and supposed moves for players such as Jan Vertonghen, Junior Hoilett, and young keeper Jack Butland, I don’t think it is needed to change Robin’s mind about his future at the club. I think he knows the club is on its way to a trophy, if only he sticks around.

I’m glad I’ll never stand with you on a battlefield. The fickle fans that turned on Wenger make me ashamed of my scarf. Trecherous, weak and mutinous. The price of the success AW has brought us is ‘fans’ like you

  • It great knowing that Lukas p.Deal is become positive issue among ARSENAL fans, let wait and see what the board member has for us next season.we hope for some better.

  • the don says:

v perse will never join man city.
if anyone knows anything bout v perise
its a fact he is not the type to do that.

there is a chance of him going to madrid or barca

but its most likey seeing as we will be in the CL
and finshing 3rd …better then the past few season

this team is getting better with young players starting to shine.

there chances of v perse staying are round 80%

RvP’s been with us eight years, so in two years he’s entitled to a testimonial, a rare thing in todays game that would elevate him to a true Arsenal legend.

  • Best says:

Nasri n RvP? Nothing in common…French player are known for “prostitution”…no loyalty…In contrast,Dutch player are always loyal…Some times you may have to chase dem away (they are that loyal) e.g. Robben,V d Vaat…Sneijda..n even Kuyt…

    • Dan says:

Where did I say they were the same? I just used nasri as an example of what would most likely happen if he went to city.

  • God says:

This article is crap. Fabregas took a pay cut to go to barca. Mancini said he will try to sell balotel, if he’s not fired. When Mancini gets replaced the new manager will have enough brains not to keep tevez. The only place Rvp will go is higher quality clubs so: man utd ( he won’t go there I think we all agree), barca( too poor, but he said he likes them), real ( if he likes barca he won’t go to real m)

    • Dan says:

Thanks very much for the positive reinforcement. As for what Mancini SAID, and what he will DO, we have all seen that these can be two different things. “Tevez will never play again!” … Oh look who’s playing. Mancini has put a lot of faith in Balotelli, and yes, he has let him down, but I still think Mancini will back him.

  • sellarshavin says:

I dont think he will leave either but this has got me paranoid:

What Arsenal ought to doing: Start with a blank sheet of paper, then head the list – Next Season’s Ambition / Achievement. If it is simply to finsh forth place – which is no ambition at all, then they need to replace the dead wood and bring in two players.

If it’s to mount a serious challenge for top honors, then we would need 4 / 5 quality players, still removing the players that have demonstrated they cannot perform at the level as first expected. Some of the names being branded about will help to strengthen the positions of weakness, together with Joel Campbell, Ryo and added youngster in the reserves.

Arsenal have been relying heavily on only 15 players in the squad all season, while a number have held seated positions. No need to splash their names all over the net as it will prove a tougher job to get our asking price £1.00.

  • Aziz, KL-Malaysia says:

At least someone who has a clear mind and picture ofrealism … and I bet RVP also has … he’s no dumb Nasri and all other blokes that vanished from the football scene once they left the Gunners …

  • Halldór says:

I would love it if Arsenal bought Gylfi Sigurðsson from hoffenheim he has been amazing with Swansea!
