Has this forward impressed in his first season at Arsenal?

Arriving from current Ligue 1 champions Lille last summer for a reported £10.5 million, Gervinho is nearing the end of his first full season as an Arsenal player.

So there is no better time to ask that all important question which will surely get a few of you out there debating – Has he impressed?

The 24-year-old has featured a total of 31 times for the Gunners (25 in the Premier League), with three league fixtures left to play. The Ivorian has managed o find the back of the net on four occasions and has bagged seven assists along the way.

Gervinho has bags of pace, is a tricky forward to play against and is considered a direct player who isn’t afraid to take on an opposing defender with his wonderful ball control and dribbling technique. His low centre of gravity helps him produce some dangerous runs down the flank, and his sharp movement, cutting in and out in the final third, causes havoc.

For me, the simple answer to the question I have asked in the title of this article is yes.

Some may strongly disagree with my view, but for a player to come to a new country and a new club with new team-mates, Gervinho has done pretty well for himself, not great but not poorly either.

Yes we can criticize him for his lack of physical strength and his inability to test the opposition goalkeeper, which makes me think to myself, the guy either can’t shoot or is a magnificent team player, as he would rather assist than score.

Whatever the case, Gervinho has managed to cause confusion and mayhem to those he has come up against. He has played a vital role in the front three alongside Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott. At their best, they were no doubt the most feared front trio in the Premier League – creativity and pace on the flanks with a deadly finisher in the middle, you can’t ask for much more than that.

His form has dipped a little since his return from the African Cup of Nations though, but he can only get better from here on in.

Gervinho possesses a lot of potential and with time, the Ivory Cost international could become a great asset for the club.

What do you guys think – Has Gervinho impressed in his first full season at Arsenal, or does he need to step it up next season?

Yes i think he has done ok for his first season, could have scored a few more i think from some of the chances he had but i would say he will be a good team/squad member for next season.

He has not impressed me at all.I don’t think he has had one even very good game and lots of indifferent ones.At the start of the season he made some goals with clever play main yon the left but in the last few months he has struggled. Going to th ACN didn’t help but I’d put him behind Ryo,AOC and Tho next season and if Podolski does arrive he may be surplus to requirements.

against stoke he get 1 goal and 2 assists resulting in arsenal 3 – 1 stoke. but he really need to improve his 1st touch

Yes, I think he will prove to be a good buy!
I believe he was taken back in a way after the sending off and later the African Cup. Never really found his feets again after those disappointments. Next season he is aware of what PL is all about and he will be a really good ålater for us!

Lots of talent, alot of assists early, but very little chance lately. I like him more than walcott for impact on the game. Tests defenders better, tracks back more too. I believe goals will come too

I think he has had much more off days than on but I still think he has got it in him to take on players constantly with ease. Unlike Walcott he has got good dribbling skills aswell as pace. But fair play to him as it is only his first season in the prem

With the addition of Podolski, I think he’d be great back up for Walcott and Podolski on the wings. He can play on either side. He’s done pretty well – suffered a bit of burn out in the new year, but if we use him every few games and as an impact sub when needed, then he’d be much more effective.

As well as that, we have Oxlade-Chamberlain and Ryo Miyaichi for the wings. If Benayoun stays, then one more. Even Santos can play there.

An ok first season, provides something different to Theo especially with deep lying defences. He has a trick or two and draws players to him missed afew one on ones early int he seasona nd needs to improve the decison making with his teamates and this will come. I thought his impact against Chelsea was good. African Nations disrupted his progress but then our our praise for Bobby wasn’t glowing after the first season. I like him and he will do well next season.

Put it this way chamakh was far more impressive in his first 3 months than gervinho has been in his first 8!

  • joey says:

He has been rubbish!! seriously what games have you been watching?. He is so clumsy with the ball and nowhere near good enough if we plan on winning the premiership, the fact the we will be playing podolski wide left next year proves even wenger knows it has not worked out for him. Id be the first to defend gervinho if he cost 2-3 million in came from a poor side in turkey or greece but this guy came from a successful lille side and cost alot of money his performances should be an awful lot better. I dont know any supporter who has any confidence in him whatsoever.

  • Silenstan says:

He had a bright start but seems now to be yet another cul-de-sac runner, makes wrong choices and wont shoot. He does, track back. Probably deserves another eason, but if an offer came in i would take it
