Do we stand a chance of signing this French forward now Bayern are interested?

|

A Bayern Munich scout has confirmed today that the German club are after reported Arsenal target Olivier Giroud, which begs the question – have we any real chance of signing the Montpellier striker?

Giroud, who has netted 16 goals in 22 appearances for Montpellier and is arguably their star performer this season, has previously been linked with a summer move away from the Stade de la Mosson, with Arsenal said to be interested in the 25-year-old French striker.

It is believed Arsenal have been monitoring Giroud, as the north London club look for potential replacements for Robin van Persie, who is yet to commit his long-term future to the Gunners.

If Arsenal are indeed interested in Giroud, then it seems they will have to fend off competition from Bayern Munich.

Bayern scout Bjorn Andersson told Aftonbladet:

‘At the moment, we are watching Guidetti and a striker from Montpellier, Giroud.’

Now if the interest of Bayern wasn’t bad enough, should Arsenal wish to acquire Giroud then they will reportedly have to pay the required €16 million buy-out clause to release him from his contract, which expires in 2014.

Giroud is certainly another option for us to think about this summer, even if RVP stays. The France international’s record this season for Montpellier speaks for itself and could flourish even further under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.

However, would Wenger pay the required fee to sign Giroud this summer? It’s only €16 million, which is about £13.4 million, not a lot to splash out to obtain one of Ligue 1’s top strikers in my opinion. But something tells me Wenger just won’t go for it, will try to negotiate a better deal and eventually lose out to Bayern Munich, who more than likely will just stump up the cash and offer him a nicer wage package.

I don’t mean to be negative on the matter, but I have seen our club lose out on so many top players over the years due the asking price and, because of our policy, will probably left disappointed once again.

Here’s hoping I’m wrong as I would love to see Giroud at the Emirates next season.

It depends whether Wenger is willing to put up a fight to get Giroud or if it’s all hot air and just some journalist making up a story or the players agent trying to get a nice big fat pay cheque. We will have to wait and see.

Sign these playerz at a reasonable n fair prizes with the help of david dein whom son as nw turn a monsta 2arsenal facilitatin loosin our top playerz .. I dont knw of otherz but i remain a very die hard arsenal fan cos i was with them wen it was al rossy and am leavin them now when the trouble times ar around the corner. I’ll love to see arsene sit on the madrid bench or citeh where no board member wil tel him to take sticks for them. In arsene i fucking trust! 0 1
