Should Arsenal do battle with Bayern for this Blackburn forward’s signature?

It appears Blackburn are set to lose their star man Junior Hoilett to Bayern Munich this summer.

The Bundesliga side are looking to take advantage of a particular FIFA ruling, which would means they would be able to snap up the Canadian striker for a small fraction of his £6 million asking price.

The rule states: clubs are only entitled to90,000 for each year they have trained a departing player under the age of 23.

Now because Hoilett has been at Ewood Park for nine years this would equate to810,000 (£700,000). Now while Steve Kean is likely to do everything within his power to get the 21-year-old to sign a new contract, much will depend whether Rovers will be able to avoid the drop.

So with Bayern interested, I would like to ask the following question – should Arsenal exploit these rules, do battle with Bayern, and attempt to snap up Hoilett’s for under a million pounds?

Let’s face facts, Arsene Wenger is always looking for a bargain and doesn’t like spending a lot so, on paper, the Blackburn striker would show as little risk for a decent reward. Hoilett has impressed so far this season at Blackburn, and perhaps a move to The Emirates could unleash his full talent and ability.

If Arsenal were to snap up the young Canadian then it could be a huge boost to him, especially being able to play in Europe, and with the young players currently at the north London club and under Wenger’s guidance, it could also help him develop further as a footballer.

If I was Wenger I’d have Hoilett high up on my wish-list. I know this move wouldn’t be to everyone’s liking, but there is very little risk in this move for such a player of his potential.

So, should Arsenal enter battle with Bayern Munich for Hoilett?

Yes. Yes. Yes. He will be a STAR.

  • Gunner says:

You can only sign him for that price if he joins a club abroad, if he joins another english club the fee will be higher (but still a bargain!)

I for one would be very happy if Hoilett signed for us.

Wenger could start a very powerful mix between young and experienced team whilst being a very dynamic team.

    Szczesny, Fabianski, Mannone

    Sagna, Jenkinson, Yennaris

    Santos, Gibbs

    Vermaelen, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Bartley, Miquel

    Song, Coquelin, Frimpong

    Wilshere, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky, Diaby

Chamberlain, Gervinho, Miyaichi, Arshavin, Walcott, Wellington Silva

    van Persie, Hoilett, Campbell, Afobe

I think if Wenger could mould these players together properly during the summer and create an understanding between them whilst instilling the right attitude and hunger into these players we’re set for a very competitive season.

The fee will be between 4 to 6mils if he were signing for an EPL team. But even at 10mil, he’ll be a steal. And we would have been after him as a team, if we have ambition.

  • i don’t think that bayern would buy him as they already bought shaqiri

    Reasonable bargain

hoileit is a gud player at his age, but do we really need him wen we ‘ve young players like walcott, ryo,ox,wilshere, joel campbell who is also xpected 2 return from loan? i know players like walcott n ramsey ‘ve drop in form recently, but i believe wit time dey ‘ll catch up. however, i believe in wenger, if he sign him fine i ‘ll be ok.
