Why this out-of-form Gunner could be key to Arsenal’s silverware hopes

If Arsenal really want to stay in the top four, keep in the title race and win the FA cup then they need to keep hold of Andrey Arshavin and give him a new contract.

Many will have looked at his performance on last Monday night against Leeds United and thought what a disappointing performance from a tired old Russian, but I didn’t. I saw an energetic Russian that was trying desperately to find some form through hard work and a shot at goal.

Funny enough my friend (a Leeds fan) called me up to complain about the complete disgrace that Henry was awarded Man of The Match against Leeds and complained that it should have gone to Arshavin, which I agreed with. Yes he did miss chances , yes he did give the ball away, but he destroyed their left-back on numerous occasions, cutting inside and leaving him for dead. Even with a lack of confidence, he did not hide, he hit shot after shot after shot and even managed to pull a sublime volley out the bag that just sailed wide, which Pundits then slated him for asking why he didn’t put in a cross. But Arshavin can do a Berbatov this season, ignore the fans and become the class act he always was.

I remember a few years ago Arsharvin came to the Premier League after impressing in the Euros with some sparkling displays against the world’s top teams. He moved to Arsenal in the January transfer window and saved their season. It may have taken him a while to score his first goal, but what a beauty it was, taking on two Blackburn defenders before faking a cross and firing cooly past Robinson.

But one Arshavin moment that we will never forget will be against Liverpool when he scored four spectacular goals at Anfield, showing once and for all that Arshavin has arrived.

But a lack of form and constantly coming off from the bench has made Arshavin hit a slump and he’s been criticized by the clubs fans for a lack of effort and for producing nothing on the pitch. But I urge Arsenal fans to be patient and wait for the real Arshavin to produce, after all Arsenal had three great creative players last season in Nasri , Fabregas and Arshavin and for me he is the only one in the team that can play that eye of a needle pass and feed are new number 12.

Arshavin is the last of the great creators and should be treated as one.

Everyone blames Arshavin when we don’t perform well, pretty easy target. I don’t quite remember when did he cost us a game. But I also don’t remember when did Ramilson created or scored a goal in the PL. All I remember is Ramilson just assisted our opponent for 2 goals over the weekend. We all knew Walcork is gonna score after 30 attempts but marjority don’t complain too. Why? Is it because Arshavin delivered before, whereas Ramilson and Walcork hardly, or never..deliver so there are no expectation?

He costs us games all the time because he cannot take chances and he always gives the ball to opposition and limit our chances of doing anything with it, while at the same time invite the opposition to attack our already uncertain defence !!! You cannot keep on experimenting with the Arshavin’s of this world while our competitors are moving up the log table and advancing into the next rounds of cup competitions. We need serious players at Arsenal. How long are we going to live on the glory of what he did against Liverpool two seasons ago ??

    Dear Wenger,

Please finish what you started belatedly in the summer. Offload Arshavin, Almunia, Squillachi, Rosicky and Chamakh NOW.

Generate required funds to add to money already at your disposal and bring in 2/3 world class players.

STOP worrying about paying slightly over the odds to achieve your goals.

We are not far away from being a real force, but now is the time to be brave. Do it now and you will only have to focus on ridding the club of Fabianski, Denilson, Diaby, Gibbs, Vela, Bendtner and possibly Walcott in the summer.

C’mon guys! Y is nobody making all this noise on Walcott n Ramsey? Walcott is just an overrated runner wit no footbal brains jst incomparable 2 guys like dyer! On the other hand Arshavin is a proven quality on the big stage, wasted on the wings, his weaknes shld b covered by playin him where he can employ his strong points!

    • Martyn says:

      Maybe Pete’,

But I believe his heart is not in it therefor it will not matter where he is played.

I understand your points re Walcott but, remember the goal he scored against Chelsea (5-3 win) that was special and he at least is always trying.
