Why this out-of-form Gunner could be key to Arsenal’s silverware hopes

If Arsenal really want to stay in the top four, keep in the title race and win the FA cup then they need to keep hold of Andrey Arshavin and give him a new contract.

Many will have looked at his performance on last Monday night against Leeds United and thought what a disappointing performance from a tired old Russian, but I didn’t. I saw an energetic Russian that was trying desperately to find some form through hard work and a shot at goal.

Funny enough my friend (a Leeds fan) called me up to complain about the complete disgrace that Henry was awarded Man of The Match against Leeds and complained that it should have gone to Arshavin, which I agreed with. Yes he did miss chances , yes he did give the ball away, but he destroyed their left-back on numerous occasions, cutting inside and leaving him for dead. Even with a lack of confidence, he did not hide, he hit shot after shot after shot and even managed to pull a sublime volley out the bag that just sailed wide, which Pundits then slated him for asking why he didn’t put in a cross. But Arshavin can do a Berbatov this season, ignore the fans and become the class act he always was.

I remember a few years ago Arsharvin came to the Premier League after impressing in the Euros with some sparkling displays against the world’s top teams. He moved to Arsenal in the January transfer window and saved their season. It may have taken him a while to score his first goal, but what a beauty it was, taking on two Blackburn defenders before faking a cross and firing cooly past Robinson.

But one Arshavin moment that we will never forget will be against Liverpool when he scored four spectacular goals at Anfield, showing once and for all that Arshavin has arrived.

But a lack of form and constantly coming off from the bench has made Arshavin hit a slump and he’s been criticized by the clubs fans for a lack of effort and for producing nothing on the pitch. But I urge Arsenal fans to be patient and wait for the real Arshavin to produce, after all Arsenal had three great creative players last season in Nasri , Fabregas and Arshavin and for me he is the only one in the team that can play that eye of a needle pass and feed are new number 12.

Arshavin is the last of the great creators and should be treated as one.

I totally agree with everything he just needs one goal and he will be hitting them in for fun

Are you people even watching the same Arsenal? We are lucky if he creates one attack and holds on to the ball up another time per game.
This extremely optimistic thinking is how the board justify the lack of investment in the team and why you lot know there is no chance of us getting top 4 if the miracle happens and he does improve.

I say play Oxlade-Chamberlain he will be a great player one day, just needs experience to get there. He’ll contribute more than Arshavin will anyway too because the thing is, if you want to be good at football you actually have to try, and see the difference between training and match day.

And then you’ll wake up (disappointed)and realize you were dreaming.

Arsh+£20m = Hazard! Yeah! Get back to his real shape at 33 may be bravo! bravo! What ajoke!!!

  • Bigzy says:

What an idiotic thng to say, He is here at present, hardly doing anything to justify a new contract. and he is costing us an arm and a leg. On top of this all you can suggest is to give him a new contract…. really!

arshavin is a fantastic player but i think he has been wasted at arsenal playing on the left wing, he is not a winger, he is a player that likes to play behind the striker and pull the strings.

Amazing player but sadly wasted at arsenal.

  • fowler says:

This ‘arshavin is wasted at arsenal, he plays best in the middle’ is utter bollocks.

How can we play arshavin in the middle of the park when its where the most running happens on the pitch, he hardly moves when he’s on the wing!! Also when he plays in the middle it makes no difference to his performance, these statements are based on carling cup games against the likes of huddersfield which has no bearing on how he’s guna play in the prem or CL.

He clearly doesn’t give a sh*t and is a disgrace. Sell him the sooner the better!!

I’m with you mate. He has the yips. Can’t hit the broad side of a barn door. He just knows thaty no matter how crap his effort is he keeps collecting that fat pay check. He has not developed and become better he has got worse. It’s a disgrace and somehow a reflection on the management and the team. He was potentially a huge star and he has burnt out. Another reason why Cesc left – no one with the same desire as he had to ake things better.

Arshavin is the most improved player in 2012. 4 games ago he started move. 3 games ago he started to run. 2 games ago he started dribbling with accuracy. last game he was more energetic. He needs to add 1 goal to confirm he is in form and improve his accuracy in shots and in chasing down players. Thats it he just need to do 3 things and he is back to his best.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Arshavin among many others needs to be moved on ASAP. I cannot believe that since we moved to the emirates – to compete with the man utds and barcelonas of this world – we are heading towards being a mid table team. There is no player in this current team that would get a game in the invincibles team, RVP included ( bergkamp was better). Kronke is not the answer either, as someone has already said, share price is god. We all know where the weaknesses are in the team yet they haven’t been addressed. In Arsene we trust has always been something I have personally believed. Not any more. This team is no where near good enough to finish in the top 4 (never mind win a trophy) and don’t make excuses about injuries – even with no injuries we are not good enough. It will hurt but I for one will laugh when we don’t qualify 4 the chapions league because it will hit the share holders pockets hard and will only be able to blame themselves and Wenger. And as for Arshavin .. Do u know anything about footy?

  • C4 says:

Andrey is a class act, he’s just out of form. The more he plays, the better he’ll get. Simple as. He’s also a big game player, he likes the big occasion. All is best performances have been against the bigger clubs, e.g. Liverpool, manure, winning goal against BARCELONA…

  • Dlp says:

The move from highbury to the emirates is costing is us bcause were still paying so dont expect any transfers and support the team

  • Ogbor Victor says:

give him 3 more chances if he fails to impress sell the hell out of him
