Arsenal have once again been dealt a bitter blow as target Eric Abidal recently signed a new deal with Barcelona until 2013 with the option to extend it to 2015, ending Arsene Wenger’s chances of landing the experienced left-back.

Missing out on the 32-year-old Frenchman (to me) indicates to me that we are unable to attract even the seasoned players, let alone the wonderkids out there.

This also means that Arsenal are still yet to sign anybody during the transfer window, apart from Gunners legend Thierry Henry on a two month loan deal. Desperate for defensive cover it would be a nightmare if we fail to sign a defender and currently Chris Samba is looking like our best option.

I also think that our transfer policy needs to be altered. We miss out on players because we move at snail pace in the market. We currently need a team (referring to the Arsenal board) who are prepared to go in and make deals happen, not faff around and just talk about players that they would like to sign.

Maybe the only way this is going to happen is if Alisher Usmanov raises his stake in the club, because it looks like Stan Kroenke is not going to invest the money we had hoped for in Arsenal after all.
