Arsenal have handed a two-day trial to Oman international Saas Suhail Juma Al Mukhaini.

The 24-year-old is a defender and can play in Arsenal’s troublesome left-back area which could mean Arsene Wenger makes a surprise acquisition this month.

Al-Mukhaini has been capped 25 times by Oman and is thought to have been recommended to Arsenal by national team boss Paul Le Guen.

The player currently plays for Fanja SC.

One day Wenger will understand why you pay a premium for players who have proved themselves in the Premiership. One day he will wake up to the truth that too many of his overseas buys do NOT make it over here. Then again … I doubt if he will change.

We need an unproved Omani who might be quite good in a couple of years … like we need a hole in the head.
