Arsenal put on alert as French striker reveals Premier League dream

|

Reported Arsenal target and Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud has recently revealed his desire to one day play in the Premier League, but remains focused on his short-term goals.

The 25-year-old has been in impressive form for Montpellier, netting 14 goals in 19 Ligue 1 games.

Giroud has quickly risen to prominence in the French league and is now recognised as one of the best forwards currently operating in his native country.

Giroud, who has two international caps to his name, hopes to remain a key figure in France’s set up ahead of the European Championships and is also focused on helping Montpellier attain a high league position in Ligue 1.

However, should he achieve these goals then there is every possibility that the Frenchman could move on to pastures new.

The striker admitted that he would love the chance to perform in the Premier League and, with both Arsenal and Newcastle previously being linked with a move for the France international, Giroud could get his wish sooner rather than later.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Tours striker said:

‘I have always stated that it would be a dream to play in England. But I am focused on Montpellier for now because I owe them a lot. I don’t want to think about too many things at once.

‘We are all hoping to play in Europe and the next couple of months will be a turning point in our season.

He went on to say:

‘My personal objective is to score 20 goals and end the season on top of the scoring charts.

‘I also want to go to the Euros with the French team, so it is only right that I aim to finish above the other forwards.’

Personally, as much as it sounds stupid to say, I hope Giroud performs well and achieves his goals with Montpellier, but not with the French international squad at the Euros (if we are indeed interested in him), purely because his value will sky rocket, meaning we would be priced out of a potential deal for striker, thus leaving Arsene Wenger rethinking his options.

Anyway, let’s see what happens. Watch this space.
