Arsenal flop heading to Italy?

Marouane Chamakh could be heading off to Italy, with Fiorentina recently announcing their interest in signing the Moroccan striker this month.

Chamakh, who will make his last appearance for the club tonight against Leeds before heading off to the African Cup of Nations, has been linked with a move away from The Emirates in recent weeks with numerous clubs expressing their interest, and has even suggested the possibility of leaving the club but remaining in England.

Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his side this January and with news that Fiorentina are preparing to pay in the region of £5 million for Chamakh’s services, a player he signed on a free from Bordeaux in 2010, the Frenchman could utilize the cash on a particular area of his squad.

Over the summer I was suggesting that Arsenal should hang on to Chamakh and give him a chance to develop and adapt. However, he has had his chances already this season and has simply failed to deliver. Robin Van Persie has been in the form of his life and with Thierry Henry’s return albeit on a two month loan, I would struggle to see how the Moroccan international would even feature for the side if he wasn’t going to the African Cup of Nations.

It remains to be seen whether the 27-year-old will stay or be sold. Personally, I think the latter should occur.

Going once going twice SOLD! Grab the £5mil transfer fee and save £75k weekly salary.

Well he didn’t start out as a flop. For the 1st few months he led the line and scored goals. When RVP came back (and stayed back) from injury Arsene had nowhere for Chamakh to play. No other formation, no tactical variation, no effort to find a way to bring the best out of players like …. Arshavin, Bendtner (who are NOT wingers !) and Denilson (who is not a defensive sweeper !) and Chamakh. They have become flops but it isn’t all their fault.

i know benik afobe has been injured but does wenger really believe that chamakh on approximatley 75k a week and doing NOTHING is going to contribute more to the team than benik afobe who is on minimal £ a week and even if he scored 5 goals and season(which im assuming he would),he would be a better option as it would free up wages to spend on a big name player to keep rvp happy. also afobe is goin to improve and score more goals every season if he is as good as he is meant to be.

dont get me started on park chu young who is seemingly getting paid millions a year to run around at great facilities 5 days a week, then gets the weekend off. i’d take his job!!

Benik Afobe? If he was that good would’nt we have seen more of him by now? We need a PROVEN goalscorer and theat means looking abroad and coughing up – but spending the dosh aint Wenger’s style is it? The sooner we get rid of that useless camel (Chamakh) the better.

im not saying afobe should be our main back up to rvp. all im saying is that chamakh has been a complete waste of money(wages)and he is no better than afobe or even other players like vela or bendtner who are on less wages.
