‘If I had the money today, I’d put it on Neymar.’

These are the words of Arsene Wenger, who admits if he had the money and the backing of the Arsenal board he would rival Barcelona and Real Madrid for the Brazilian’s signature.

Neymar, who recently signed a new three-year deal with Santos, is regarded as one of the finest young stars in world football and is already being tipped by many (including Brazilian legend Pele) for great success in the future.

This view is shared by our very own Mr. Wenger, but the Frenchman believes the 19-year-old must prove himself on a bigger stage if he is to be recognized among the greats:

‘You can’t say that Neymar is Pele as he had won the World Cup by the age of 17.

‘He has the potential to be one of the future great strikers but at the moment there’s a big difference between the Brazilian league and a European league.’

Interesting … can never trust wenger, he is long enough in the game to realise what ever he says has massive repercussions.

An interesting post i read earlier implied that wenger was trying to push up his price tag as a rival was interested or maybe push Neymar into asking for a transfer.

Either way if it is a rare slip by wenger into actually revealing his transfer targets then it shows he realises the need for reinforcements up front … and it aiming high profile. But given the price tag means he will not have a lot for midfield playmaker or defensive players.

    I love this time year
