Would a top four finish really be classed as Wenger’s ‘best achievement’?

It appears George Graham is once again craving the limelight as he trys and hops on the Arsenal bandwagon.

In a recent interview, the former Gunners boss said:

‘At the beginning of the season, when they brought new players in, I thought they would be struggling to finish in the top four.

‘The way they’re playing at the moment they could do but I still think that if Arsene gets them into the top four it will be his best achievement.’

So why am I frustrated? Well having thought about the article over the last 24 hours it got me thinking what Arsene Wenger has achieved over the years at our club.

Will a top four finish this season eclipse the Doubles of 1998 or 2002? Better yet, will it eclipse the Invicible side of 2003/04 season?

In my honest opinion, NO it won’t. There is no doubting that we struggled in the opening 5 games of this season and finishing in the top four would be a great achievement after a poor start. However, despite this, I think many Arsenal fans still expected a top four finish even after those results.

This season has already seen the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea struggle in some games and this will undoubtedly be key to Arsenal acquiring a Champions League spot because other teams are going to slip up and that will be where we narrow the gap with some decent results along the way.

I am sure that the media are going to eat some humble pie as the season progresses because they had pretty much written us off before the campaign even started and are already starting to eat their words with our performances.

Has our comeback surprised me? No. I can hands up say that I have had faith in the team and Wenger this season. There are players that I have worried about, but overall I am not surprised by how we are playing at present – I am just surprised at how well certain players are playing currently.

A top four finish would be great for us this season, but would it be Wenger’s best achievement as Arsenal boss? I don’t think so as he has done far greater things in his 16 year tenure.

i am not sure if many arsenal fans did still think we would make the top 4 after the blackburn game, maybe delusional and overly optimistic ones yes

Delusional as someone says but the league is over 38 games not 5. Money and buying players for the sake of it doesn’t guarantee anything either. The best we gulf do is back our team to the hilt and give them confidence because you may never know. Xmas schedule and weather will play a big part. Are the exotic players of Man City up for it?we are yet to find out. It should not be a surprise of a London top 2 after 38 games.
