Napoli have joined the race to sign reported Arsenal target Patrick Herrmann.

Sources in Germany claim The Gunners are among a number of clubs keeping tabs on the 20-year-old midfielder, who has been in impressive form for Borussia Monchengladbach so far this season.

The German Under-21 international initially broke into the first-team in 2009 and finished off last season with 15 starts, 2 assists and 3 goals.

But Herrmann has made a good start to the new campaign, netting 2 goals in 10 appearances for the Bundesliga side, which have evidently alerted the attentions of Champions League outfit Napoli.

Reports in Italy have recently revealed that the Naples club have been tracking the progress of Herrmann very closely this term and could be ready to launch a bid for the German midfielder when the January transfer window opens.

This could alert Arsenal, assuming rumours are true, into making an offer of their own for Herrmann, who could be made available for a mere £3 million.
