‘He is up there with Messi and Ronaldo’

Johan Djourou has expressed his views on Robin van Persie, claiming the Dutchman is as good as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Due to their remarkable goal-to-game ratio for their respective clubs Barcelona and Real madrid, Messi and Ronaldo are recognised as the two best players in world football.

However, Djourou believes Van Persie, who has now netted 31 goals in 29 games this year, should be considered in the same bracket as the La Liga duo.

The Swiss defender recently told talkSPORT:

‘I don’t think there is a hotter striker in Europe at the moment.

‘He is up there with Messi and Ronaldo, he is a great player and a great captain.’

Djourou went on to say:

‘The guy is so talented and he is showing it every week. It is amazing to see him doing all that but he deserves it because he has had problems before with injury. It is good to see him fit now.’

As I was writing this up I was actually envisaging the strike force of RVP, Messi and Ronaldo – what a lethal forward line that would be! Goals would be flying in, left, right and centre!

Anyway, back to reality. RVP deserves every single plaudit he is currently receiving. The man is simply on fire, and I wholeheartedly agree with Johan on this one, Robin is up there with Lionel and Cristiano in my book.
