Arsenal, without doubt, are dominating all the headlines this season. One minute they’re signing nobody, the next they are linked to a whole host of European stars keen to flex their muscles in the Premier League.
The Gunners could have their most productive transfer window ever in January if the rumours and stories circulating the media reveal themselves to be true.
One such rumour is the possibility of rising German star Marcos Reus entering the Arsenal frame.
The Borussia Monchengladbach attacker has recently been quoted by a German newspaper suggesting that playing for Arsenal could not be ruled out:
‘Well I think everybody has his favourite club and ever since I was a kid I’ve always been a fan of Arsenal because I love the way they’re playing football.’
An exciting prospect for any Arsenal fan, the versatile 22-year-old has undoubtedly caught the attention of several clubs both domestic and abroad, most noticeably Bayern Munich, who have been strongly linked to Reus for some time. Despite this high profile link, Reus reveals he is happy at Gladbach and is committed to the club for the duration of this contract, but wouldn’t disclose further details:
‘As I said, I’m happy to play at Gladbach and I’m not thinking about other things. I have everything I need here. There is one clause, that I can leave in 2013 for a specific sum.’
Borussia Monchengladbach struggled last season, barely escaping relegation so they will be glad to have held on to the services of Reus. However, it will only be a matter of time before a big club like Arsenal swoop for the highly rated player.
The clause in Reus’ contract has been reported at being €18 million in 2013, a sum of money Arsenal have been known to part with in the past, especially for such a hot prospect who is proving himself to be an all-rounder in the German Bundesliga. Furthermore, Reus is yet to make an appearance for the German National side, albeit because of injuries, meaning the world stage has not yet seen the player that many have said is on the same level as Leverkusen’s Andre Schuerrie, FC Schalke ‘s Lewis Holtby and Bayern’s Toni Kroos.
So it remains to be seen if the Premiership will be blessed with the arrival of Marcos Reus in the near future; Arsenal could certainly do with having a proven young attacker in their side to bolster their attack or will they stay true to form and fail to splash the cash once again?
