Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has reason to believe that the club’s injury woes are not down to their medical staff.

It was confirmed that Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere would be out until Christmas, after undergoing surgery on an ankle injury that didn’t appear too bad when first sustained.

But Parlour has hit out at those putting the blame for Arsenal’s poor injury record on the club’s medical team by saying:

‘They gave him an opportunity to heal himself which will benefit him in the future.’

‘The medical staff try and look after your body a lot more for when you finish football.’

‘They’ve given him an opportunity to get better, the time scale is not good for Arsenal football club but they’ve had to make a decision now and [surgery] is what they’ve gone with.’

‘People have had a go at Arsenal’s medical staff, I know the medical staff, I played there myself. I’ve had lots of treatment with Colin Lewin, he’s a fantastic physio. It winds me up sometimes when people say it’s the medical staff, maybe the players are just a little bit weaker.’

‘No-one wants to keep having operations on your ankles or your knees because it will affect you as you get older. When you get to 28/29 you start getting more injuries if you’ve had loads of operations when you were younger.’
