FC Twente winger Ola John recently revealed that he could’ve made a move to Arsenal or Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old, who is the younger brother of ex-Fulham striker Collins John, has reportedly been monitored by Arsenal and United for the past 12 months.

John, who has bagged just 1 goal in 23 appearances for FC Twente since becoming a senior member of the Dutch club last season, was interested in the prospect of joining either United or Arsenal but decided to stay with the Eredivisie side, claiming his chance to move to a big club will come in due time.

The Netherlands Under-19 international recently told Dutch publication De Telegraaf:

‘At the moment I’ve extended my contract with FC Twente, I was interesting Manchester United and Arsenal. But I have chosen for my chances to remain with FC Twente.’

‘If I do really well, the chance to go to a big club will still come.’

Although the youngster has potential and looks a good prospect for the future, personally, I believe we have enough wide men at the club. Furthermore, I think it’s time to invest in the present rather than the future, so I’m glad this move never transpired.

However, if John does develop in the right way and impresses over the next 2-3 years or so, then Arsenal should consider bringing him in, but for now we have enough ammunition in his position (excuse the rhyme).
