Just sign someone already!

Everyday now, I wake up and go straight to my computer. I have this vague feeling of hope that today might be the day that we actually sign someone.

These next few days are going to shape our season; we need some new faces at the Emirates. But where the feck are they?

I’ve trawled through all the blogs, the gossip columns and football betting bwin odds. I’ve read about Kaka, Ribery and today Schweinsteiger, and as exciting as these transfers would be, I can’t see them ever happening.

First off, let’s get one thing straight. It’s not Arsene Wenger’s fault.

Sure, after David Dein left the club Wenger took over transfer negotiations. But since then we’ve hired Ivan Gazidis, and as far as I’m aware he is the man responsible for leading transfer negotiations.

I’m sick and tired of the anti-Wenger brigade slagging off our manager. According to some of these ‘supporters’, the Frenchman is trying to ‘ruin the club’ and ‘destroy our future’. A minority of these supporters are loyal; they’re just deeply frustrated; they want the best for the club they love. The rest are fair weather glory hunters who wouldn’t know who Bruce Rioch was if he came up and punched them in the face.

Wenger is only responsible up to a point. He identifies the players, then the board, led by Gazidis, go out and (try to) make the signings. This just isn’t happening, or it is? One thing is for sure, it’s taking too long.

How are these support staff so ineffective? Why are they so reluctant to get in the players we need when we need them?

Recent reports on the tinterweb have suggested that part of the problem is the board’s reluctance to sanction large pay packets, with the club sticking strictly to our wage structure. Whilst I approve of the financial prudence, I think we can all agree that the time is coming where we are going to have to find some more flexibility when it comes to signing the top players that we need to compete.

Many supporters are calling for the return of David Dein – whether this is ever going to happen is highly debatable; he’s Usmanov’s man and Gazidis is Kroenke’s. I live in hope, though I realise this is a futile hope. What David Dein would bring to the club is a direct and swift resolution to our transfer dealings. Something that hasn’t happened since er….David Dein was last at the club.

Something needs to change. It’s not the manager or his coaching staff. They’ve proved over the years just how effective they can be. The problem at our football club is behind the scenes, away from the pitch and the training ground. The problem is at boardroom level. Without fundamental change at the top, I can’t see things getting better any time soon.

Would Arsenal fans welcome the return of David Dein? Or am I alone in thinking that this would be a good idea? I truly believe that our effectiveness on the field is now being hampered by our ineffectiveness off it.

How are things going to change for the better? Answers on a post card please…

Maybe your right and it is down to the board awe are not making any signings but then why does Wenger keep taking responsibility by making out it’s down to him. Whatever the truth is if we don’t strengthen then we are in trouble and whatever the excuses someone is lying and that’s not good enough

i dont think dein can change the clubs transfers effectiveness because basically the board isn’t ready yet to understand football hs changed hvin in mind top 6 clubs……the likes of man.city payin £150k-250 to their top players…i dont blame wenger

Don’t know where you get your info on how the transfer dealings at our club are handled. But even if you are right – sorry, but it is still Wenger’s fault if he can’t get Gazidis to sign the players he wants. Its up to the manager to put the pressure on the likes of Gazidis. If the manager keeps farting around, then the likes of Gazidis will not sign the players he wants. Per Mertersacker is available – at a reasonable fee – why hasn’t he been signed? Tevez is available at 35 million – why didn’t they do a trade on far better terms with City in exchange for Clichy and Nasri – just too short sighted I suppose! Why didn’t Wenger get a player from Barca thrown in with the Fabregas deal? Even their 2 line defenders would be far better than Koscilney! Wenger jujst isn’t thinking straight. He has lost it. Its time for him to go.

ive been crying out loud to all my mates in pakistan that wenger is the person you should be supporting and the board should get the criticizm. If someone is to blame its the board. In arsene we trust.

if something dramatic does not happen in the coming seven days……such is the position we might even struggle for top ten finish……feeling gutted by our situation now !

There is a fundamental problem at Arsenal we have been close to winning the title but lack of EXPERIENCED players has cost us dearly and we are now in danger of undoing all the good work that has taken place in developing raw young talent. Man Utd have successfully integrated old and new whilst winning trophies. Arsenal have released experienced players too soon and underestimated their impact off the field in terms of developing a winning mentality. It defies belief that we are 8 days away from closure of the transfer deadline and unless we sign a centre half two world class midfielders and a top quality striker we will struggle to finish in the top six let alone top four. This is nothing short of a catastrophe and disagree with Arsene on this front. I am staggered that this sequence of events was not foreseen and yet allowed to develop. We have accumulated huge sums from sales in recent years but failed to invest. The next week is critical need to get behind Arsene Wenger the team but the transfer dealings need to be addressed. Why have we failed so miserably to land our targets ? The Market is the Market we benefit on the sale side and the Board has to be ready to commit on the buy side otherwise serious danger of slipping into the abyss!
