Just sign someone already!

Everyday now, I wake up and go straight to my computer. I have this vague feeling of hope that today might be the day that we actually sign someone.

These next few days are going to shape our season; we need some new faces at the Emirates. But where the feck are they?

I’ve trawled through all the blogs, the gossip columns and football betting bwin odds. I’ve read about Kaka, Ribery and today Schweinsteiger, and as exciting as these transfers would be, I can’t see them ever happening.

First off, let’s get one thing straight. It’s not Arsene Wenger’s fault.

Sure, after David Dein left the club Wenger took over transfer negotiations. But since then we’ve hired Ivan Gazidis, and as far as I’m aware he is the man responsible for leading transfer negotiations.

I’m sick and tired of the anti-Wenger brigade slagging off our manager. According to some of these ‘supporters’, the Frenchman is trying to ‘ruin the club’ and ‘destroy our future’. A minority of these supporters are loyal; they’re just deeply frustrated; they want the best for the club they love. The rest are fair weather glory hunters who wouldn’t know who Bruce Rioch was if he came up and punched them in the face.

Wenger is only responsible up to a point. He identifies the players, then the board, led by Gazidis, go out and (try to) make the signings. This just isn’t happening, or it is? One thing is for sure, it’s taking too long.

How are these support staff so ineffective? Why are they so reluctant to get in the players we need when we need them?

Recent reports on the tinterweb have suggested that part of the problem is the board’s reluctance to sanction large pay packets, with the club sticking strictly to our wage structure. Whilst I approve of the financial prudence, I think we can all agree that the time is coming where we are going to have to find some more flexibility when it comes to signing the top players that we need to compete.

Many supporters are calling for the return of David Dein – whether this is ever going to happen is highly debatable; he’s Usmanov’s man and Gazidis is Kroenke’s. I live in hope, though I realise this is a futile hope. What David Dein would bring to the club is a direct and swift resolution to our transfer dealings. Something that hasn’t happened since er….David Dein was last at the club.

Something needs to change. It’s not the manager or his coaching staff. They’ve proved over the years just how effective they can be. The problem at our football club is behind the scenes, away from the pitch and the training ground. The problem is at boardroom level. Without fundamental change at the top, I can’t see things getting better any time soon.

Would Arsenal fans welcome the return of David Dein? Or am I alone in thinking that this would be a good idea? I truly believe that our effectiveness on the field is now being hampered by our ineffectiveness off it.

How are things going to change for the better? Answers on a post card please…

Spot on Bevan!!! The tile is my life and the board thing is very very true.

Wenger Wanted Mata- The board didn’t sign, its the board who sign players, Wenger who finds them

you also find not every one wants to join arsenal, mata’s agent kept trying to get chelsea involved so that they could get more money, ansd he knew that once a club like chelsea wanted his player, that his players wages would go through the roof and the agents money would also go through the roof, i heard arsenal offered 110,000 a week not including bonuses, chelesa have agreed to pay around 200,000a week .where can we compete?
what we need is this continued boardroom war to end and usmanov made chairman and sack hillwood.
then we’ll have usmanov putting money into the club and if old silent tight fisted stan could possibly open his purse maybe we’ll have top players again.

The Mata thing showed Wenger isn’t happy his reaction was simply “We are not signin and I don’t have to give a reason”

His reason would have been that Gazidis messed it up

  • mykollins says:

the return of David Dein will not change anything. since the board stil remain the same selfish minded.

  • Jeff says:

Agreed!! I’m not sure David Dein would be able to fix things. But I completely agree that it is not Arsene’s fault. We need to keep Arsene here more than any player on our team. Time to start supporting our men on the field gooners!!

  • Goonermark says:

The arsenal board are so greedy , there making wenger do all the work so they can make money , if any body should be sacked it’s Ivan gazidis , David dein use to help wenger gazidis does nothing and it’s unfair how wenger gets the blame cus he would never say anything bad about the arsenal board . Wenger s to nice and gazidis and hillwood take advantage of him

    Love it!!!

The real Arsenal fans are coming out in droves recently. I was starting to feel like I was the only one left. As the part time supporters switch allegiance to Man United in search of glory it is now us that is left and I couldn’t be happier. We have an abundance of talent in our squad but we all know that we need at least 2 or 3 signings and as the transfer clock ticks away the suspense ramps up. I’m ready to stand by Arsene and the lads for this is the season of discontent, THIS IS ARSENAL!!!!

  • yob says:

first.. look for the money.then fuck that bastard kroenke out from europe football…then chuck that stupid gazidis into any dustbin you think rite. solve all the problem yeah.

Tired of Transfer rumours.Actually we should have signed some big players already.See Manu they completed their transfer dealings before mid july and Alex made them a group in a months time. Now they are ready and set for a fresh challenge. But Wenger is pulling his transfer dealings to the end which may save some money but not his job or Arsenal’s top four finish this season

    Hill-wood out

DAVID DEIN IN AS CHAIRMAN – GET USMANOV ON THE BOARD!!!

WE CAN NOT COMPETE, IF THE BOARD REFUSE TO MOVE WITH THE TIMES!!!!!!!!

  • MartyP says:

It is totally clear at this point it is management that is not making the signings. If you pay for a Jenkinson you do not have to look at a realistic wage scale. Fabregas’s salary at 110 a week is five years ago. Offerring Nasri 90 when City offers him a wage double that is insulting. Arsenal needs to up their wage to at least 165 a week, otherwise you are not going to sign a Mata or any player that cost 20 million and that is what the Gunners now need big signings, so it is clear that the Board needs to go. I do not know why Kroenke bought in if he is satisfiied with this status quo. Palyers are coming to the Uk which has the highest taxes on their salaries, and Chelsea, City and ManU have all uped the scale. We are soon to be like Totenham looking up at the top three, and with the money Liverpool has spent, them too. They are lucky Wenger is there, but the board has effectively turned the Gunners into a selling club, a club that develops players only to watch them move on.So get ready to say goodbye also to Wilshire, Walcott, and anyone else who can be an international player.
