Reports have emerged that Bolton are chasing want-away Arsenal midfielder Denilson, while the Gunners are still looking to strengthen their back-line with the capture of Gary Cahill – could there be a potential swap deal on the cards this summer?
Arsene Wenger is a keen admirer of the 25-year-old Bolton centre-back, but appears unwilling to cough up the £17 million asking price for the England international.
The Frenchman has in the past offered Owen Coyle a number of Arsenal players, including Henri Lansbury, Ignasi Miquel and newly Nicklas Bendtner, to try and reduce his expenditure on the defender. However, these bids were promptly turned by Coyle, indicating that he would prefer straight up cash for Cahill this summer.
But reports now suggest that Bolton are very keen on Denilson, which has given Wenger yet another player to try and force a swap deal for Cahill.
Denilson, who has fallen out-of-favour at the Emirates since Jack Wilshere’s emergence, would cost Coyle up to £6-7 million – if he wants to buy the Arsenal midfielder outright. However, I believe that Wenger should try and force a swap deal involving the want-away Brazilian, as the Frenchman could then acquire his target for around £10 million, whilst keeping £7 million in his pocket for possibly another player on his list.
It’s worth a go in my book. Cahill seems keen on a move to Arsenal according to some of his friends, and should the swap deal plus cash prove successful, then we would be killing two birds with one stone – signing a much needed centre-back and getting rid of Denilson.
Newcastle and Malaga have also expressed an interest in the Brazilian, but I think Wenger should try this proposed swap deal before listening to any other offers for the midfielder this summer.
What do you guys think, is this potential deal worth a go?
