‘Currently, everyone is standing still’ – No Wenger, only Arsenal are

‘Currently, everyone is standing still.’

‘Everyone expects everyone else to make the first move. Everyone holds on to their cards, hoping for the major transfer.’

‘Nobody blinks until late July, early August. Then we will analyse the gaps in each team. But I am very active on the phone.’

These are the words of Arsene Wenger, as the Arsenal chief recently told a French Radio station that the North London club will not be rushed in the transfer market.

Now, I’m not trying to belittle or make Wenger look like a fool, but doesn’t the Frenchman know that Manchester United have already snapped up three players this summer?

Wenger’s recent quotes indicate to me that it will be another agonizing summer for us fans to behold, and to suggest that it could take several weeks for our club to make any significant movement in the market sounds daunting to say the very least.

I understand that Wenger needs to ‘write up’ his transfer list, as well as scout his preferred targets, but he can’t dwell for too long.

We have been linked with a number of high-profile players this summer, but it seems nothing – apart from this apparent Gervinho transfer which should have been done and dusted already – is going on at Arsenal at the moment.

We are set to lose Gael Clichy, Cesc Fabregas, and probably Samir Nasri this summer, yet Wenger has decided to bide his time and see what other clubs around him are doing first, rather than looking for quality replacements to fill the gaps.

For Wenger to suggest that ‘everyone is standing still’ is pure nonsense. Perhaps he should read the newspapers or switch on to Sky Sports News to see what is actually going on around him, because believe me, everyone is not just ‘standing still’.

Start making moves now Wenger, because if you delay then the players you’ve targeted will either be playing against us in the Premier League, or in Europe this upcoming season.

Is Wenger right to bide his time this summer, or should the Frenchman start making movements as early as possible?

On the scaring point, Arsenals biggest compliment is how every team in the premier league, adjusts their plpay to play us. Look at the Emirates, not one side attacked us. Everyone had 10 players in their half and counter attacked. That means they’re scared.

    • Titi says:

lol believe me Tom nobody is scared of Arsenal anymore, just because a team sits back at the Emirates doesn’t mean they are worried, its tactics mate. We cant seem to break teams down anymore and that is the most worrying thing of all

      • Tom says:

I disagree. Why wouldn’t they come and attack? Because they’re scared that we will take them apart, in the space they leave. The tactics they use do work, but it’s through being negative and scared. Do you really think not one team is scared of playing Arsenal?

Tom, these kids should really be in bed by now, they obviously drank too much orange juice. Who can seriously say that this Arsenal team is in turmoil and the manager is a joke if they ever supported the team before this manager was here. The team’s been in Europe for the last 15 years, do you know how often the team was in Europe in the 100 years before Wenger arrived ? It was 11 times and only twice in the European Cup. You don’t know what it means to support a club in turmoil, what a bunch of idiots.

The only difference between now and when Arsene was winning trophies is that when he was winning it was a fair contest, everyone had roughly the same amount to spend. Now it’s far from a fair contest. Say what you want about the club being tight while you sit on your seats in the 400m quid stadium that they bought. If you’ve ever bought a house, unlikely as most of you are 10yo, you’d know that it takes a chunk out of your budget for a long long time.

I can hardly believe some of the scathing comments I’m reading.
No-one has left the Club, the overall Window has only just opened, and it has 8 weeks to run.
We have our Manager, Chief Executive and negotiating staff working away BEHIND THE SCENES towards the signing of new blood, together with the selling of players who haven’t quite made the grade.
And all the time we have our “experts” telling Arsene who to buy and when, although they haven’t the faintest idea of running a football club, let alone the technique of player transfers.
Let all the moaners and carpers now determine to create an oasis of calm in the desert of their pessimism, have patience and leave matters in the hands of those who know best….the professionals.

I’m so grateful for Charlie and Nicky…..I’m not alone. I agree with everything you both said. I think the problem is most are not true fans. I remember the years before Wenger, the football we played wasn’t as nice, and we didn’t win that much!! Now we are still challenging, and playing a great brand of football, that’s not killing the club. Give me a potential youth over £20 million for Henderson etc any day. Also, this may alienate me even more, but Bendtner, is not the best striker in the club, but I would rather have a Bendtner for £200,000 than spending £35 million on someone like Andy Carroll, as I don’t see one being better than the other. Both decent Premier League strikers, but that’s it. Wenger does well for what he has, we are still competitive, but the club is in great shape.

As I said before, this is not a computer game, where you can save and go back when you make a mistake. It’s real life, and I’m Arsenal through and through, even if we end up in League Two….which most of you guys seem to think we’ll end up as we are in such turmoil.

    Thanks Charlie and Nicky!!

With all due respect to he fans of Arsenal, we know that Gervinho is on his way to Arsenal and that Wenger has tried to get Samba and Cahill. We also know that Arsenal had already made a bid for Alvarez and were turned down. We have also had that Wenger has bid 18m for Juan Matta and there have been a number of dealings that are going on behind the backgrounds. Do you really expect Wenger to come out and say we are after so and so? We know that if he does that, every other club will go after the players he intends to sign. The transfer dealings also work with respect to who is leaving the club and sometimes clubs have to wait for that to happen. Don’t be too spiteful to Wenger. I believe that he will do a lot this summer.
