Which midfielder should Wenger go for after dismissing Parker interest? – Have your say

It’s been reported that club scouts are trying to persuade Arsene Wenger to sign West Ham skipper Scott Parker this summer. However, bizarrely (in my view anyway) the Frenchman does not see the England international as a player who would fit into his team.

Rumours are circulating that Wenger is in the market for a midfielder this summer, maybe even more so after Denilson recently expressed his desire to leave the Emirates at all costs.

Yesterday, the News of the World reported that Gunners chief scout Steve Rowley, who is thought to be a big fan of Parker, has been urging Wenger to sign the defensive midfielder. However, the Frenchman is apparently not interested in the West Ham man and citied the player’s age as one of the main reasons behind his decision.

Wenger very rarely goes for players who are approaching the age 30 – which Parker currently is.

It is believed that Wenger will focus his attentions on the South American and French markets for potential signings this summer, whilst reports suggest that the Arsenal boss will attend some matches during this summer’s Copa America in Argentina, to witness first hand what the competition has to offer.

Now in my opinion, Parker would be an ideal signing for Arsenal this summer.

He is the robust midfielder that we are currently lacking in our squad, who possesses great leadership qualities, determination, and above all, bags of Premier League experience.

Now if Wenger is not in the market for him (as reports suggest) then just who the hell is he in for?

Which midfielder does he see as the one who would fit into his side perfectly? Because personally, I’m struggling to think of one better than Scotty Parker.

So I ask, if Wenger is not interested in Parker, then who do you see the Gunners chief acquiring in midfield this summer?

Give us your thoughts.

why no gourcuff he would fit perfectly or even ze roberto cmon we have to be open minded or else arsenal will be a laughing stalk

    • Exo says:

Gourcuff was begging to play for us and Wenger said no, another one that got away. I agree with you mate he would have been perfect

Scott Parker whilst being a good player,is not the player who can solve Arsenal,s current midfield problems. The Player who will go a very long way in improving the team,in both technique and attitude is without doubt Joey Barton. He has something Arsenal’s Midfield has been missing for quite a few seasons, mainly BACKBONE and a big HEART.

    • Tony Merakli says:

But don’t you think Parker has, as you put it, Backbone and Heart? If anything, I think Scotty has more desire than Barton, and he’s not a dirty player like Joey is.

  • chris says:

    I totally agree
Scotty Parker would be an amazing signing for arsenal.
He is a quality player. im glad im not the only one who sees this. wenger needs to listen to his scouts. parker is good defensively and will just sit in the holding midfield and give our defenders some cover. also giving other midfielders tohe chance to go forward.
poor decision making by wenger in my eyes

there’s no proof that arsene is not interested in parker, only speculations.
did aw state that he’s not interested? cause i havent read anything about it (and i doubt it’s true).

    gokhan inler maybe

Hi Tony Meraki,no Tony i am not suggesting that Scotty Parker does not have Backbone or a big Heart, but if you watched England’s game at the weekend you will have seen that he struggled to get into the Game, i just feel that he is not Arsenal class.Yes Joey Barton has a bad and well deserved reputation. However look at how much he improved with his discilpline last Season, and on the two occasions he played against us,he was easily the best player on the field.

    • Tony Merakli says:

Valid points, but you can’t judge parker on one performance with England. He was immense for West ham this season.

I agree, maybe he isn’t what Arsenal usuallly go for, but this doesn’t mean he hasn’t got desire and fight in him.

I would love to see him at Arsenal coz he would do well alongside Wilshere and teach him a thing or two.

  • stu says:

if not parker then what about Inler who had a steady game for the swiss, ashamoah the ghanian midfielder from udinese, melo from juventus, de zeeuw from ajax, mavuba from lille

  • louis papper says:

I think Gokhan Inler or Danile De Rossi, both outstanding players that ooze desire and combative spirits, also both players have the balls to shoot from outside the box, I think Rossi could become our clubs captain within half a season if he were to come.
However this is all in an ideal world. *sighs*

I think . .We need a midfielder who works hard . .Who never gives up lyk stankovic or gerrard or gattuso nd Charlie adams .. .who can kill matches with der long passes nd never say die attitude . . .We should buy 2 mid fielders 1’s attacking . I agree wit gourcuff, inler. . wot bout schweinstiger of german?? He can play anywer . .nd we need a def mifielder. . de rossi . . he wud suite perfectly . .Wer’s Veloso Toulalan Hamsik??? I wud prefer Veloso r gourcuff r schweinstiger .. .I wud say vertonghen he can play def mid nd also def . . If nasri nd fab leaves den i wud say Pastore Pjanic

  • Ad says:

I would go for Inler at all cost. He is one of the reason why England couldn’t break from the middle. He is tenacious and hardworking as Wilshere.
