Should Wenger meet Nasri’s ‘sky-high’ wage demands?

It has been reported in The People today that Samir Nasri will only stay at Arsenal if his wage demands are met.

Rumour has it that the French midfielder wants £160,000-a-week (an estimated £8.3 million-a-year) from the Gunners, or a move away from the Emirates this summer.

Nasri’s sky-high salary demands have halted negotiations over a new deal, as he enters his final year of his existing one.

Manchester United look favourites to nab the creative Frenchman, who netted 15 goals in 45 appearances for Arsenal last season, as their attempts to prise Wesley Sneijder away from Inter seemed to have hit a brick wall.

Manchester City are also believed to be interested in Nasri, and could easily offer the player more cash than that of Arsenal and United.

Arsene Wenger will now have to make a huge decision – Offer Nasri a huge pay rise and run the risk of other players wanting the same, or sell him this summer and recoup some cash.

One thing is for certain, Wenger will definitely not want to lose him on a free next summer when his contract expires.

So, should Wenger meet Nasri’s wage demands, or seek to sell him?

Personally, I can’t see the club offering him such a contract.

Arsenal have a strict wage budget to keep to, and although a number of fans will probably deem him worthy of such wages, in my opinion, I don’t think he is (cue comments).

I don’t think this is true £110k maybe but I’m sure Nasri knows asking for £160k a week at Arsenal is beyond reality. I personally think we should sell Cesc and try our best to keep Sami as we all know Fab leaving for Barca is inevitable.

160k per week. I will say worth it. Better than letting him run away on free next year. But he should not be given such a contract. Firstly it will reflect badly on the club and other young players might want to do the same. Secondly, players like RVP and Fabregas earned this contract for years of service and leadership. If nasri is given a similar contract, it shows their years of service is not appreciated.

Javier Pastore has been valued at 44m quid by Palermo which was enough to scare Chelsea, United and Man City so he’s effectively off the market. What worries me is that Nasri will go for something in the vicinity of 8m which would be a steal. Painful to take but 10 times more painful if it’s one of the EPL rivals that take him. If i take Rooney as an example the United fans hated him when he seemed to be holding the club to ransom and demanding that better players are bought but he signed a crazy contract, started playing well again and now it’s all forgotten. If the guy wants 110,000 then give it to him, i think he can justify that. If he wants 160,000 he’s living in cloud cuckoo land. If he wants more than Van Persie he’s deluded because he hasn’t got half of the ability or character. There’s no doubt in my mind that RvP should be the top earner and nobody should match his wages.

oh yeah, except that he’s injured for half the season every season.

110,000 is okay for me. don’t repeat flamini mistake please.

What makes u think he is worth more than RVP. Jack was the most consistent player and he earns 50,000. he is no better than cesc. He is too individualistic. How many assists do he has? did he score more than Rvp who was injured half a season and played less games. Guyz are blaming Cesc for Nasri’s misfortune. But cesc was not there in the final against Birmigham. If we allow the Habit of Players holding the club at Ransom there is great trouble ahead. The likes of jack will say that we play over 50 games a season and therefore we want 200,000. the club has a wage structure and if it has to change it will reflect to all players the club has. Not an individual.Sell him and get Ashley Young before he signs for Man utd. Period. THIS IS ABSOLUTE BULLSH*T, F*CK NASRI AND ANYBODY SUPP0RTING HIM. HE WASNT EVEN THE BEST PLAYER AT ARSENAL OR ENGLAND ;(
