Should Wenger meet Nasri’s ‘sky-high’ wage demands?

It has been reported in The People today that Samir Nasri will only stay at Arsenal if his wage demands are met.

Rumour has it that the French midfielder wants £160,000-a-week (an estimated £8.3 million-a-year) from the Gunners, or a move away from the Emirates this summer.

Nasri’s sky-high salary demands have halted negotiations over a new deal, as he enters his final year of his existing one.

Manchester United look favourites to nab the creative Frenchman, who netted 15 goals in 45 appearances for Arsenal last season, as their attempts to prise Wesley Sneijder away from Inter seemed to have hit a brick wall.

Manchester City are also believed to be interested in Nasri, and could easily offer the player more cash than that of Arsenal and United.

Arsene Wenger will now have to make a huge decision – Offer Nasri a huge pay rise and run the risk of other players wanting the same, or sell him this summer and recoup some cash.

One thing is for certain, Wenger will definitely not want to lose him on a free next summer when his contract expires.

So, should Wenger meet Nasri’s wage demands, or seek to sell him?

Personally, I can’t see the club offering him such a contract.

Arsenal have a strict wage budget to keep to, and although a number of fans will probably deem him worthy of such wages, in my opinion, I don’t think he is (cue comments).

  • andy says:

Dont pay it let him go and sign no more French players.

  • jamie says:

Should up his pay to Fabregas’s level and add on bigger bonuses depending on how well he does (goals, assists, trophies etc)

  • fowler says:

he doesnt want that much. he wants aboout 110k a week so just give him that and sell cesc so that will cancel out nasri’s pay rise.

Nasri is nt a true gunner, AW pls sell him ASAP we don’t want an intruder in our squad. Remember Hleb & co, u are d next.

absolute rubbish, I’ll only believe it when I hear it directly from Nasri’s mouth.

@andy your a moron so you would u say no to benzema? or Ribery? thought not. does your xenophobia extend to belgium? if so better say no to hazard! Nasri is one of the best midfielders in the world atm. and when fab goes he has been promised the cm role and we could build a team round him! fab lost my heart when he hugged the entire barca team in front of his young side BEFORE the game in the tunnel @ camp nou, 40 mill plus thiago is ok. This team has got so much potential without fab! he like henry was untouchable and this isnt healthy for the team, especially when he wants out. Gonna miss you though!!

Think it was reported that he wanted 110k a week which when compared to other top footballers doesn’t seem that outrages… Sign him please and get the new recruits in sooner rather then later.

Anyway, let go Fabregas or Nasri, but not both. Preferably Cesc, and move Nasri to the center.

And what is it with the 10 Mio. release I keep hearing about Nasri? That’s RIDICULOUS money for a player like him. If they really would let him go for that little money, then OF COURSE extend his contract on 110.000 a week, and then let him go in a year for 35 Million.

  • bserious says:

Should defo give him what he wants. football wages are ridiculous and wenger being stubborn isnt going to change anything. he should atleast get Fab’s wages. If he leaves we will be unable to find an adequate replacement who will demand less than 150 a week.
