Should Wenger meet Nasri’s ‘sky-high’ wage demands?

It has been reported in The People today that Samir Nasri will only stay at Arsenal if his wage demands are met.

Rumour has it that the French midfielder wants £160,000-a-week (an estimated £8.3 million-a-year) from the Gunners, or a move away from the Emirates this summer.

Nasri’s sky-high salary demands have halted negotiations over a new deal, as he enters his final year of his existing one.

Manchester United look favourites to nab the creative Frenchman, who netted 15 goals in 45 appearances for Arsenal last season, as their attempts to prise Wesley Sneijder away from Inter seemed to have hit a brick wall.

Manchester City are also believed to be interested in Nasri, and could easily offer the player more cash than that of Arsenal and United.

Arsene Wenger will now have to make a huge decision – Offer Nasri a huge pay rise and run the risk of other players wanting the same, or sell him this summer and recoup some cash.

One thing is for certain, Wenger will definitely not want to lose him on a free next summer when his contract expires.

So, should Wenger meet Nasri’s wage demands, or seek to sell him?

Personally, I can’t see the club offering him such a contract.

Arsenal have a strict wage budget to keep to, and although a number of fans will probably deem him worthy of such wages, in my opinion, I don’t think he is (cue comments).

No player is bigger than da club, i love Nasri but Arsenal is way to big of a club to be held at ransom by a player(no matter how good he is) i say let him go along with Cesc, and get Javier Pastore he said he wants to leave.

    The answer is quite simple.
There is a wage structure at Arsenal, set in stone for a very good reason.
No player should be allowed to break this, unless the Board agrees to the necessity of a total review.
Otherwise, you will have a situation bordering on anarchy with envy and disharmony throughout the dressing room.

You all talk all that smack about no player is bigger then the club. Arsene needs to pu his scale, the taxes in England have gone up compared to other places in the EU, and Arsenal’s wages have not reflected taht. The team arguably played better with him in the middle with Cesc out then they did later. He is worth at least a 110, probably 120 a week. Then if they have good years sell the suckas for max money. Arsene is to cautious with money and that is a good thing, but he is dithering while ManU prepares to win the league again and face Barsa again….the gunners will be luck to stay in fourth at this pace and risk alienating their core with their skinflint ways

110k per week and that is fair enough.. He deserves that.

What evidence have you “that taxes in England have gone up compared to other places in the EU and Arsenal’s wages have not reflected that”. How can you possibly know WHAT financial packages have been negotiated within Arsenal to take taxation into account?
You say that Nasri is worth a least £110m, probably £120m a week. Rumour has it that he is asking for £160m a week. How would you respond to that, bearing in mind other team members who might be on the same wage as Nasri?

Re. my comment, please substitute letter “k” for letter “m” in wages quoted.Sorry.I got quite carried away when I remembered my OAP!

Nasri is a fantastic player, bt for 160k a week sound ridiculous 2 me, I think he is okay at 110 or 120 bcos he better dn fabregas now, so he worth d same wages as fab. but I also heard dt he wanted 110k a week.

Watching the U21 match, how good is Javi Martinez?

If you are going to sign any young spaniard he is the man. 22 years old 6’3 defensive midfielder, he has it all.

  • dennis says:

Hmmmmh 160k I dnt think he’s worth he hasn’t even done an inch of what cesc has done for the club I would side with him if he was holdin out to pressure wenger into acquiring world class players who knows maybe if we get samba n cahill even cesc might decide to see how next season goes but since nasri’s only after money let him go

If you put morals and ethics aside and focus purely on the laws of economics (Wenger will like this) then give him what he wants but based on performance and results. No businessman worth his salt would offer a flat wage it has to be based on incentives. Personally (morals and ethics back in place) I`d let him go for a good price.
