Arsene Wenger is reportedly still looking to sign Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill, but will have to fork out at least £17 million for his services this summer.
So I ask, should Wenger just whip out his cheque book and sign the player for the amount stated above?
Well, it may not be as simple as that, as it appears the North London club could face stiff competition from big-spenders Manchester City, who are also said to be interested in the defender, and could potentially offer Cahill a better wage if he were to join City this summer.
Personally, I think it’s important that we seal the deal as soon as possible before the situation worsens. We have recently lost out on Phil Jones, who joined United earlier in the week, so it is vital that we get some players on our books, and if that means throwing £17 million (a release clause figure in his contract) at Bolton to acquire Gary Cahill this summer, then so be it.
Part of our problem has been the indecisiveness to actually part with the money, which has cost us dearly in recent seasons.
We could have added a number of players to our squad during the winter window, but because we were too slow to negotiate transfers, they unfortunately fell through.
Times need to change at Arsenal and rapidly. We need to become more ruthless when it comes to managing our transfers and seal deals faster. We cannot keep losing out on our targets to other clubs. We seem to dwell for too long, and then, by the time we make a move for the player in question, he has already signed for another club.
In the next two weeks, I would like to see the Gunners try to acquire at least two players – one being Bolton’s Gary Cahill for £17 million.

coz man utd already hv ferdinand vidic evans smalling dat makes 2 wrld class defenders and 2 gud/avg defenders why wud he sign cahill who is 26 and disrupt the pecking order besides jones was originally a target 4 nxt summer liverpool forced sir alex’s hand otherwise they wouldn’t hv signed a central defender in d first place…

Cahill and sakho is the players we really need to strengthen our denfense.
@sam, of course we have four or five cetre back, but none of them except Vermaelen is good enough, because all the rest were unreliable for their lack of concentration which always cost us. So, we must hurry to get their signature (Cahill or Sakho) as sson as possible and let Squilacci and Djorou out of the club whatever the price is…

Arsene Wenger,is too dual when it comes to transfer,and is because of his stinginess we are losing our target to other clubs. Arsene, why can’t you loose your hand 4 once haba!.
transfer business is not as easy as buying tomatoes in a market.Wenger wanted mark as our goalkeeper but his club refused, he also wanted samba but also the club refused and my guess is it was the same with cahill and will probably be the case again, Look at man u they take jones to a medical and when he is already signing man u shirts his club says a big NO. i think amongst the defenders we are linked with only only samba would improve our team.he would negate the threat of set plays which has been our biggest weakness,i also think we should let clichy go and let kos play at leftback
