Have the Emirates faithful become spoilt as ex-Gunner claims?

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn admits Arsenal fans have been spoiled under Arsene Wenger, and insists its time for the Frenchman to spend some money in the transfer market this summer.

Wenger hasn’t had the best time of late, after enduring a sixth successive season without winning a trophy. However, Winterburn, who won the double in 1998 under Wenger, believes Le Professeur’s early success has spoiled the fans, and continuously urges them to keep faith in their manager.

The former Arsenal left-back believes he (Wenger) will stay at Arsenal, and will make some big summer signings:

‘In a way when Arsene first came to the club the supporters became spoiled because he continued the tradition of winning trophies. The last six years haven’t been great in terms of winning things, but I’m sure by now he has realised that maybe he needs to strengthen the squad, and I’m sure he will do that in the summer.’

Winterburn continued:

‘And you also have to look at how he has provided a new training ground for the club and the infrastructure for the Emirates Stadium. So I don’t think Arsene will go because I still think he has a love affair with Arsenal and still think he feels he has something to prove. He wants to deliver some trophies to the club so I’m sure Arsene Wenger will be around Arsenal for a little while longer.’

In my opinion, Winterburn is absolutely right. Wenger continued the tradition, but brought a new direction to the club. He’s stamped his own mark on the club, and has his own particular mind-set, but I’m afraid that just won’t work anymore.

With all the money that is circulating around the football world these days, there needs to be players brought in, to mix with the young talent that we possess.

If Wenger doesn’t change his approach, then I can see a change of manager at the end of next season.

The fans are getting increasingly restless and frustrated – they simply won’t stand for this much longer (you only have to recall the negative chants and boos at the Emirates on the last day of the season to know this).

I wish Winterburn could down with Wenger and force him to make the essential signings required this summer. Everyone at the club would certainly be better off, and the fans might actually get what they have been calling for.

when will you “fans” get it through your heads. Your opinion does not matter with regards to Wenger. As long as the board are behind him he will be there. He has just signed a new 3 year contract. He will be here for a while still. Accept it or go support another team.

None of you know what goes on in the Market to suggest that Wenger is messing around. If he was that bad the board would not offer him a new contract. Just think for a second before hitting those keys!

@ Mr x – Wenger bought most of the board members in…..most of the oldies are gone mate….the one that mattered most in regards to signing was DD and he’s backing Usmanov now who doesn’t even get a seat on our Board, regardless of the fact he is the 2nd biggest shareholder….also i dont appreciate being told to support another team, just because i dont agree with what wenger has been doing in the last 2 years….starting with Flamini going to AC Milan on a free.

No, we’re just not stupid, thank you.

Spoiled? Haha we have been going thru he’ll for the last 6 years and it’s about to get a whole lot worse! Wenger out now! Or spend on players like hazard benzema samba baines Parker and even then we could get atlases a trophy. If arsenal went 6 games and lost them all he would change the tactics for the seventh so if we loose out on trophies for 6 seasons the tactics surely have tO be changed!

Spoilt? Yes. With shame. Mr winterburn seems to infer that wenger will only go when he’s had enough, sad but i agree that we support a club whose coach is untouchable &is d only one who can sack himself. Well, @least i can boo in the stadium
&by the way, i don’t care about the ‘state of the art’ training facilities, afterall it’s the diaby’s &denilson’s that’d use it to train &get worse, i’m more interested in the shambles the henry’s, pires’, kanus’, paddys’ etc used to win things.

Totally spoilt. Ahhh, 6 years without a trophy, poor little babies. If you hadn’t started supporting Arsenal after Wenger arrived you might realise that 6 years without a trophy is nothing. Try 20 years out of the European cup 1970-1971 to 1991-1992. The Heisel ban only started in 1986 btw. I promise you the fans back then weren’t such whining Nancies. No gratitude for having the best stage in the country to watch your team and the best youth system in the world. I’m ashamed to associate with some of you spoilt kids. Admit it, you supported Arsenal because of the football Arsene Wenger had them playing and now you’ve all turned against the man that brought you to supporting the club like a jilted lover.

Most of those whiners here are those that started supporting during the Invincible reign. I recall a period to match Liverpool for droughts. Wenger’s reign has been the best I’ve experienced “overall”. He’ll sort it out, then the whiners can rub their fickle hands together.
