Arsenal are stepping up their efforts to land another Barcelona wonderkid – 17-year-old Gerard Deulofeu.
Sportsmail have reported that Arsenal’s chief scout, Steve Rowley, was in Switzerland earlier in the month to make a final assessment on the talented youngster during Spain’s Under-19 European Championship qualifying campaign.
The Gunners are reportedly trying to sign Deulofeu, who has been likened to Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi, before his 18th birthday next March, which has left the La Liga champions infuriated.
As it has been well documented in the past, footballers in Spain cannot sign a professional contract until their 18th birthday – a rule in which Arsenal first took advantage of in 2003 when they signed Cesc Fabregas at the tender age of 16.
However, the Gunners have kept with this ‘tradition’ as it were, and have nabbed another two young starlets from Barca. Just last month, Arsene Wenger managed to land Hector Bellerin and Jon Miguel Toral Harper, both 16, from the Catalan’s La Masia academy.
Ignasi Miguel and ex-Gunner Fran Merida are another two names that made the switch from Catalonia to North London during Wenger’s reign at Arsenal.
The hostility towards Arsenal, who are also believed to be interested in signing 15-year-old starlet Xavier Quintilla from Barcelona, will surely be intensified by their efforts to acquire Gerard Deulofeu.

For anybody that doesn’t know this kid, he is the BEST prospect barcelona’s academy has produced. He plays like messi, he is DEFINATELY worth it, would be a great pickup.

As an Arsenal supporter since the mid 1930’s, the saddest aspect about all these youngsters being signed, is that we oldies are never going to see them reach their potential.
I only hope we are going to buy some readymade pros and soooon!

This kid is amazing and one of Barca’s best prospects atm sign him Arsene. And yes i want to win but i dont want the likes of Samba and Cahill on the team they are honestly not a aresenal type of player..I personally do want these young players they are going to be amazing…
