‘I don’t know if I will sign a new contract’

|

Arsenal’s Samir Nasri has stunned the North London club by refusing to rule out a big summer move to Premier League champions Manchester United this summer, according to the Daily Mail.

Nasri, who managed to bag 15 goals for the Gunners this season, has recently hinted that he could swap the Emirates for Old Trafford this summer after national compatriot, Patrice Evra, told the French midfielder to join him at United.

The 23-year-old’s current contract expires next summer, and with no signs of a new deal transpiring, Wenger may look to sell the Frenchman this summer, rather than risk losing him on a free. However, Nasri wants to know if United’s interest has any credibility before deciding anything. The creative midfielder told French broadcasters TF1’s Telefoot:

‘Do I want to go to Man United? Initially, we should see if it’s real and if it is concrete.’

It is believed that Nasri will ponder his future after France’s friendly fixtures next week against Ukraine and Poland. He said:

‘I don’t know if I will sign a new contract. Anyway, the discussions are ongoing. For the moment, I don’t think about this. We will speak about it after the match with Poland.’

Wenger recently told French Radio that money is a key stumbling block in the deal, and that both parties are yet to meet an agreement. The Arsenal boss stated:

‘We have a financial disagreement which hasn’t yet been settled. We are still in discussions but we haven’t agreed a deal.’

Even though United are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation, Wenger insists he won’t sell Nasri to the Red Devils:

‘One thing’s for sure, we’re not selling him to United.’

To be honest with you guys, I’m actually fed up with this Nasri saga – which seems to have eclipsed the Fabregas one.

If the Frenchman doesn’t want to be at Arsenal (and this goes for Cesc as well) then as crazy as it may sound to a lot of you reading this, then Wenger should just sell him and look for a potential replacement.

Nasri, or any other Arsenal player for that matter, shouldn’t be holding the club to ransom. If you want more money then go find another club that will give it to you, because Arsenal certainly won’t break their stable wage structure for you mate.

If we do sell him this summer, then I hope it’s to a club abroad, and not to Manchester United – it just wouldn’t make sense offloading him to a title rival, and evidently, making them a stronger side for next season’s campaign.

Wenger has said recently that he sees no reason why he will sign a host of players this Summer.
With the likely departure of Bendtner, Denilson etc, coupled with the gathering rumours about Fabregas and Nasri, I feel the immediate future of Arsenal, player-wise, is not entirely in his hands alone.
In the matter of Fabregas, IMO the time has come when he should be allowed to return to his native city. For various reasons, we may well have seen the best of him and we should now present our firm valuation to Barcelona.
As for Nasri, if the reports about him are true,
his refusal to sign a contract extension should mean immediately advertising his availability to Clubs on the Continent.
No player is bigger than the Club for which he plays. If (for instance) he is beginning to flirt with other EPL Clubs, he must be brought back quickly to reality.
Of course much of the trouble in all contract negotiations is often down to the greediest of individuals…..players’ agents. They have been a source of endless strife and discord ever since they were spawned. Whether Nasri’s agent is the “stirrer” on this occasion is unknown.
One twist in the whole of this sorry saga is that if Fabregas goes and Nasri stays, he would probably be moved into a more central m/f position…..which he prefers and where we would undoubtedly see the best of him.
    It’s a funny old game!

i say let the f*cka go because no one is irreplaceable at arsenal

  • Anon says:

I love the saying no player is bigger than the club… but consider if we lose nasri and cesc! Then what the hell are we going to do?

Who is there to buy in who can replace them? And who of that list would come to us? To replace them they would have to be very good and be ok with getting less then 100,000 grand a week – forget about the sneijders of the world they are not coming so who?

Its all speculation at the mo but its nothing but horrible news tbh!
So lets say cesc and nasri go, then we lose ros, den, bender and lets say clichy aswell – well firstly our attack and midfield would be devastated but more importantly if reports are to be believed most the top quality world class players we have been linked to are saying they do not want to come to us!

If we lose nasri and cesc we are in big big trouble!

    @ Anon
A somewhat depressing outlook. It wouldn’t be too upsetting, IMO, if the players you mention, left.
I don’t share the view that the players we would need, wouldn’t sign. We are still one of the World’s top Clubs.
What it WOULD mean is a compelling rethink on tactics and strategy…..not a bad thing after last season. Too many teams sussed us out and we have to re-think how to get past massed defences.
As well as dealing, successfully, with set-pieces.

    • Anon says:

We are still a big club, no doubt – however more and more the bigger players, clubs, pundits and managers are seeing our club as the young players club – more and more we are not seen as a real threat.

We cannot lose our top players – if you think we can replace them with equally as good talent i think your wrong. Firstly we will not pay the world class players their world class fees and whats more we probably will not go over 20 million for 1 player

And all you have to do is listen to wenger and you will understand we will not be changing our philosophy on playing and wengers new tactics is apparently to buy ‘taller’ players!

Also i would be interested if you have any names of world class players we can attract to our club?

  • sam says:

yes no player is bigger than the club but for arsene of arsenal its different matter.
a club can afford to sell their best player then replace them with similar types or even better.
arsenal weakens everytime they sell a player because of cheap replacements. lets see for example, i dont this happening but lets just assume we sell bendtner and replace him with benzema, we replace cesc with kaka and nasri with hazard. benzema for example is a huge upgrade, he wont complain playing in the wing and will score goals but forget it coz wenger will never pay the correct fee, we just have to wait for last minute cheap bargains.

  • Iain says:

Players have got to learn that they cannot hold clubs to ransom over their contracts. If I were Arsene Wenger I would do 1 of 2 things

    1) Final Contract Offer tell player accept it or see out the remainder of your contract being omitted from the squad completley.

(This will effectively get him removed from the French squad and as captain)

    2) Transfer List him but make it clear to him that we are not prepared to sell him to a title rival and he will be omitted from the squad until he accepts an offer from a club.

    @ Sam
You quote the past and you are quite right.
But I think THIS TIME will be different. I feel certaln that Wenger, at long last, believes that after last season, the team badly needs strengthening and a change in strategy. The players in whom he trusted have been found wanting and changes WILL be made. He won’t admit much in public, of course, but big moves this Summer are in the offing.
Trust me. My Gran cleans at the Emirates so I know all the truth.

  • nicky says:

    @ Anon
Neither my Gran or I have any specific new blood in mind for the Emirates next season.
    However, please remember two things:
    1. We probably have the greatest scouting system throughout the football world.
    2. During this Summer Window we are almost certainly going to sign more top class players than we have done for many a year.

  • Maverick says:

    @nicky,

How do you know?, these things could be just said and are actually baseless.

We keep on hearing a certain player has been bid for but they do not come. Is there definitely big names in the pipeline or is it Wenger trying to get the fans off his back. One thing is for sure Wenger seemed really fed up at the end of this season i have never seen him as upset before so i feel changes are afoot but i just cant see us getting class players……i see 5 players costing 5-8 million each that are unknowns and will take 3 years to show class (if they are actually any good like squilaci…….what a waste of money)
