Should Arsenal consider summer offers for Alex Song?

|

Arsenal’s Alex Song has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, as the Italian giants look to replace ageing midfielders Javier Zanetti and Thiago Motta this summer, according to talkSPORT.

Inter president, Massimo Moratti, is believed to be preparing a £14 million bid for the Arsenal defensive midfielder. However, Arsene Wenger is unlikely to listen to offers for the Cameroon International.

Wenger acquired Song from Bastia on loan in 2005, but made the move permanent in the summer of 2006, paying just over £1 million for his services.

The 23-year-old was naturally a centre-back by trade when he began his footballing career, but Wenger decided to nurture him into the holding midfielder you see today – a role to which Song has adapted very quickly to and has performed well in ever since.

Song began to establish himself as an Arsenal first-team regular in the 2008/09 season, making 31 Premier League appearances for the club. He does a brilliant job of protecting the back-four, as well as creating and even scoring the occasional goal. He is now seen as a intricate part of the Arsenal midfield.

Song has become such a large figure in the Arsenal line-up, that many fans hearts skip a beat when his name does not appear on the team sheet.

Arsenal shouldn’t even contemplate selling Alex Song, not this summer or any other summer for that matter. Arsenal have invested too much time into making him the player he is today just to sell him off to another club, especially now that he has finally peaked.

If Arsenal are to ever shed their ‘selling club’ reputation, then they have to keep their best players on board, and even though some fans out there may not agree with this, but Alex Song is definitely one of our best players.

He is not an Essien or a world-beater by any stretch of the imagination, but there are other central midfielders who should see the door before him.

is it just me or does everyone just regurgitate what the commentators say? i mean the people commenting as well as the people posting hte articles. are you guys on some kind of whack LSD? song is the heart and soul of our midfield. i would prefer song over fabregas in our squad. wilshere, ramsey, nasri, asharvin (when played central-his TRUE position) and even rosicky to some degree can hold fabregas’ position. who can hold songs?! i think that koscielny MIGHT in the future but aside from that denilson and diaby are WEAK. both NEED to be cut from the squad. as well as fabregas, squallaci, vela and chamakh. we need to bring in a proper defensive midfielder ON TOP of song. i think FELLANI would be EPIC in our squad and would fit in well. we also need a proper defender to fit in for kossie and djourou. i don’t think djorou is first team material and kossie might be moved up to a different position when need be (dmc/rb). i would love wenger to go for either PHIL JONES, GARY CAHILL or SIMON KJAER. we need youth and height. we need someone who wants to FIGHT for first team. i think phil jones would be my #1. and FINALLY we need a #9. there’s a host of players i would love in our squad one of which would be benzama who would be the ultimate. i don’t want no short players or tall players. bentder to stay on board as well. i don’t know if szczesny is ready 100%… i have faith, i hope wenger does, if not get lloris because LYON wont be in champions league next year and everyone else is pretty much spoken for.

Jagunner….. you are such an idiot why do you comment if you don’t like what the writer has to say…….. Song holds the midfield togethere your a bitch…….

I would sell song for as much as i could get as he is no where near the quality it takes to be at Arsenal!!! He is very slow , reckless , absent minded and has not got an understanding of his duties. He is meant to be a DM but he always charges forward leaving huge gaps in midfield so then someone like Jack, Cesc or Nasri have to fill in for him!!!
