Should Arsenal consider summer offers for Alex Song?

|

Arsenal’s Alex Song has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, as the Italian giants look to replace ageing midfielders Javier Zanetti and Thiago Motta this summer, according to talkSPORT.

Inter president, Massimo Moratti, is believed to be preparing a £14 million bid for the Arsenal defensive midfielder. However, Arsene Wenger is unlikely to listen to offers for the Cameroon International.

Wenger acquired Song from Bastia on loan in 2005, but made the move permanent in the summer of 2006, paying just over £1 million for his services.

The 23-year-old was naturally a centre-back by trade when he began his footballing career, but Wenger decided to nurture him into the holding midfielder you see today – a role to which Song has adapted very quickly to and has performed well in ever since.

Song began to establish himself as an Arsenal first-team regular in the 2008/09 season, making 31 Premier League appearances for the club. He does a brilliant job of protecting the back-four, as well as creating and even scoring the occasional goal. He is now seen as a intricate part of the Arsenal midfield.

Song has become such a large figure in the Arsenal line-up, that many fans hearts skip a beat when his name does not appear on the team sheet.

Arsenal shouldn’t even contemplate selling Alex Song, not this summer or any other summer for that matter. Arsenal have invested too much time into making him the player he is today just to sell him off to another club, especially now that he has finally peaked.

If Arsenal are to ever shed their ‘selling club’ reputation, then they have to keep their best players on board, and even though some fans out there may not agree with this, but Alex Song is definitely one of our best players.

If the figures being quoted are correct, then i think Song should go,then Wegner should use that money + some more to buy a World class D.M.For me Song is slow, and gives away too many free kicks in dangerous areas.

If they sell him then they need to bring in a player to replace him. I personally wouldn’t sell him but if they do then either get Melo, Diarra, Mascharano or Parker to replace him.

I would sell him if they offer 14m.

He is average at best and only ever shines against weaker opposition. Remember the Barca game…that was when he was at peak form…nearly got sent off, a liability.

Bring in a DM with experience I say and use Kos in midfield….of course with and extra defender coming in.

Sorry just read what I wrote Arsene won’t spend any money what am I thinking!?

    Good day Gooners,

If I was AW I’ll let Song go to siing for another team as he is no difference to his brother. I watched him several times and still not impressed. we need someone with flair and understanding of the game but he doesn’t seem to be really understanding his role. Cash in on him and go for someone who can learn from Scott Parker who was born in Zimbabwe, Bulawayo.

Out team need to understand the defending role and why we shouldn’t let the opponents enjoy playing against Arsenal.

    Cheers

Sell him? Are the people who want to sell him on drugs? Seriously withe Diaby and Denilson being sooo inconsistent and shit more than great? You’re calling for Alex Song’s head?

Seriously some so called Gooners should get their head scanned.

  • me says:

    Wenger will nt sell him,

  • GoonersProtector says:

I do not agreed. He is a holding midfield with a small brain. Like the commentator has said “dribbling passed defenders of the opposite team and not passing quickly enough is dangerous”. That what he do. Patrick Vieira is a holding midfielder with a brilliant “killer pass”.
That is why Wenger is buying Scott Parker.

  • mc gooner says:

are you mad song is an excellent player and AW would be crazy letting him go.
