Emmanuel Adebayor reveals regret over Arsenal departure

|

Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has expressed his regret over leaving Arsenal two years ago. Most players usually do Emmanuel.

The Togo forward has become a hate-figure to most, if not, all Arsenal fans since his megabuck move to the blue side of Manchester in 2009.

If the move wasn’t bad enough, matters between the player and the North London side worsened after his first encounter against them in September 2009 at the City of Manchester Stadium. Adebayor received a ban following a stamp on Robin Van Persie’s face, and then decided to sprint the length of the pitch to celebrate his goal in front of the Arsenal fans. Not clever at all.

But after only a year-and-a-half into his City career, the 27-year-old has been forced out of Eastland’s and is now the fourth-choice striker at the club, behind Carlos Tevez, Mario Balotelli and new arrival Edin Dzeko.

However, Emmanuel Adebayor, who is currently on a six-month loan with Real Madrid due to his descent down the pecking order at City, still regrets the day he left the North London club. He told Spanish newspaper AS:

‘It was another level there. Bergkamp, Henry and Van Persie were there – it made me improve as a footballer. I became a key figure in attack and it shows that I was a success.’

‘[Arsene Wenger taught me] to arrive on time at training, to be professional, how to mentally recover, to act professionally with the other players in the dressing room. But, to be honest, I left frustrated. I loved the club.’

He finished off by saying:

‘When I was young, one of my dreams was to play for Arsenal because my idol, Kanu, played there. I thought I would stay there for the rest of my career.’

Everybody will know that when a player leaves Arsenal they usually fail to impress elsewhere, it’s a proven fact. Of course there are exceptions. One man who departed the North London club and achieved a bundle was none other than the great Thierry Henry. Although, generally speaking, most players (who leave Arsenal) do wither away from our TV screens and fall into obscurity. Adebayor appears to be slowly creeping into this category. I know he’s playing for Real Madrid and all, but since leaving Arsenal he has not been the same player.

I don’t know the ins and outs of what actually transpired two years ago, whether he did in fact want to leave, or was forced out by Arsene Wenger and the club in general. However, I don’t think this is really relevant. The striker lost every Gooners respect after his theatrical celebration in Manchester.

Personally, I’m glad to see the back of him, as I was never a fan of the guy. However, I do find it quite funny, yet refreshing, to see another ex-Arsenal player regretting their departure from the Emirates. You reap what you sew Ade…deal with it.

Usual story then, most players who leave Arsenal do nothing and the same has happen to Adebayor. To be honest, it was a bit obvious that this would happen to him because first of all I’ve never rated him as a player and second of all he is was garbage at Arsenal.

Personally, I’m glad to see him fail because he bad mouthed the club and the fans. In fact I’ll go as far to say I hope his career goes down hill.

The face that he had to be taught to arrive to training on time pretty much says all you need to know. To be honest, I think he’s a little mentally unbalanced. He loves people loving him, but he seems to get paranoid when people don’t. Whatever happens to him now I really don’t care but one things certain, he’ll never be welcome in N5 again.

I remember when adebayor said and i quote, “i will play for arsenal even if for free”
Well, it was all lies. Adebayor was jus a lousy ingrate. I pray he don’t hit ground zero, not that i care. Cos i know he ain’t going Up.

Finally, I knew or let me say I expected it. I was never a fun of Ade, he needed so many chances for him to get the ball in the net. It was different with Henry that’s I cried when he (Henry) left but celebrated when Ade left. He became so sacarstic and bossy with lies that chelsea and R.Madrid wanted him. I for one, am so glad to hear him confess because he thought he would shine like Wenger made him shine at the emirates! Good for him since he did what he thought was right while reaping what he sow! Crying over spilt milk? The stamp on RVP still hurts…
