Wenger keen to sign French youth star Benjamin Mendy

|

Arsene Wenger is considering a raid on Ligue 2 side Le Havre for 16-year-old Benjamin Mendy, according to the Daily Mail.

The highly rated left-back is too young to sign a deal with the French club, which has left Wenger, who has connections back home, eager to sign the France Under-17 international in the summer.

It seems as if this news couldn’t have come at a better time for Arsenal. Earlier this week, Gael Clichy stated that he is undecided as to whether he will extend his current contract with the Gunners beyond his existing deal. He told L’Equipe:

Will I prolong my contract? I don’t know and I don’t think about it. The season is still long. I will have time to think about it in the summer.’

Whilst Clichy ponders his future, Wenger appears to be doing the same for Arsenal football club. Even if the 25-year-old full-back decides to call time on his Arsenal career, fans of the club will feel that ready-made Kieran Gibbs would be more than capable of filling in.

The Gunners do have highly rated Thomas Cruise, who had a brief loan spell at Carlisle United last year, amongst the ranks, but Wenger may feel more personnel is required if Clichy departs.

Not much is known about Mendy, but If Wenger is keen on the Le Havre youngster, then surely he must be a hot prospect for the future.

I don’t know much about him, but I suppose wenger is following him quite closely so maybe he see’s something in him.

What knowledge on a Arsenal blog, ridiculous.
Cruise is not on loan, he was on loan for a month now he plays for the reserves and he is nowhere near a highly rated youngster at Arsenal, no chance for a breakthrough..

@Dudu – You’re absolutely correct, Cruise isn’t on-loan, thanks for letting me know, I modified it.

As for him not being a highly rated youngster, I never said Arsenal view him like that, that’s just my opinion on the player. I’ve seen him play and he looks a good prospect.

As for him breaking through, it may not happen, as not a lot of English talent makes it at Arsenal. But then again, I never said he would. I just mentioned he was amongst the ranks.

Anyways, I appreciate your view as I do everyone’s who leaves a comment, but try dont ridicule me for one little mistake. cheers
