Should Arsenal just splash out £17M for this man?

Arsene Wenger is reportedly still looking to sign Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill, but will have to fork out at least £17 million for his services this summer.

So I ask, should Wenger just whip out his cheque book and sign the player for the amount stated above?

Well, it may not be as simple as that, as it appears the North London club could face stiff competition from big-spenders Manchester City, who are also said to be interested in the defender, and could potentially offer Cahill a better wage if he were to join City this summer.

Personally, I think it’s important that we seal the deal as soon as possible before the situation worsens. We have recently lost out on Phil Jones, who joined United earlier in the week, so it is vital that we get some players on our books, and if that means throwing £17 million (a release clause figure in his contract) at Bolton to acquire Gary Cahill this summer, then so be it.

Part of our problem has been the indecisiveness to actually part with the money, which has cost us dearly in recent seasons.

We could have added a number of players to our squad during the winter window, but because we were too slow to negotiate transfers, they unfortunately fell through.

Times need to change at Arsenal and rapidly. We need to become more ruthless when it comes to managing our transfers and seal deals faster. We cannot keep losing out on our targets to other clubs. We seem to dwell for too long, and then, by the time we make a move for the player in question, he has already signed for another club.

In the next two weeks, I would like to see the Gunners try to acquire at least two players – one being Bolton’s Gary Cahill for £17 million.

The main question is fellow Gooners will our beloved bank manager open up his purse nice and wide? the sooner the better in our opinion.
We can surmise on who he’s going to sign either him or him but a leopard does not change his spots and i’ll betcha he’ll go for the cheapies as usual…yawn zzzzzzzzzzzz

Once upon atime you could win the title with kids. Not any more. Wenger is deluding himself with his over emphasis on kids. He seems to be linked with every kid.
If he doesn’t get the epl ,epl times 100 players, Arsenal are going to suffer when spring comes in April 2012.Of course it doesn’t mean getting the epl guys would win the title but it is better than getting kids. The kids have been found out and ,imho, they are unable to bring the trophies the fans want. They have been given five yaers, along time in football, to prove it and sadly failed the test.
