Mesut Ozil has attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, according to reports.

The 31-year-old made just 23 appearances in all competitions last season and did not feature once for Mikel Arteta’s side after the season restarted due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The German midfielder was once again nowhere to be seen in Arsenal’s Community Shield victory over Liverpool last Saturday, despite Arteta claiming ‘everybody starts from zero’ for next season.

However, despite his omission from the squad, Ozil made it clear last month that he plans to see out his contract at Arsenal which expires next summer.

Reports in Turkey now claim that Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr are ready to launch a move for the German which would see him pocket an annual salary of around £15million, while the Telegraph suggests that an unnamed Qatar club are also interested in signing the out-of-favour Gunner.

Ozil’s wages of £350-a-week have proven to be a burden on the club’s finances and a salary no club in Europe are willing to take on.

With the player adamant on remaining at the club, it seems the club have no choice but to let him see out his contract and let him leave on a free next summer.
