Arsenal’s transfer window turned up a notch on Monday evening as the club reportedly put forward a £40m bid for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.
However, a report in The Sun suggested The Gunners are in fact some way off securing the purchase of the Ivorian, by suggesting to pay the transfer fee in five-year instalments – to the bemusement of Arsenal fans.
Palace are said to have labelled Arsenal’s initial efforts to buy Zaha as ‘embarrassing’, while slapping an incredible £120m price tag on the 26-year-old.
Supporters have been left somewhat bewildered by Arsenal’s reported approach, with The Gunners only recently making their first signing and their budget is said to be the size of their opening Zaha offer.
And with some recalling Arsenal’s £40,000,001 bid to tempt Luis Suarez away from Liverpool back in 2013, some fans are less than hopeful of getting the Zaha deal over the line considering the latest insight into negotiations.
Others feel signing Zaha isn’t even the club’s priority, but the bottom line seems to be that it’s not just Crystal Palace laughing at the stance of Arsenal’s negotiating team:
Not only the we only offer them 1/2 the asking price…we want to pay it over 5 years?? Damn!!!
