Alan Brazil says a swap deal involving Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez ‘could be the deal’ that Manchester United and Arsenal go for in January.

Sanchez, 29, joined Jose Mourinho’s side this time last year in a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan sign for Arsenal.

However, the former Arsenal striker has failed to impress at Old Trafford, managing only four goals in 30 appearances in all competitions.

The Gunners went ahead with the swap deal last year with Sanchez as contract negotiations between the player and the club broke down, but Ozil was able to agree a deal after months of ongoing talks.

Ozil signed a new deal with Arsenal which saw him become the highest-paid player in the club’s history, but he has struggled to cement a regular place in Unai Emery’s starting line-up.

The German has not featured in Arsenal’s last five fixtures due to reported back spasms and because Emery hasn’t fancied in some previous games due to his lack of work-rate and physicality.

The 30-year-old is now being tipped with a move away from Arsenal ahead of next months transfer window and United are supposedly the bookies favourite to acquire his signature, while Inter Milan also being linked.

talkSPORT presenter Brazil would like to see the Red Devils sign the Arsenal playmaker next month:

“Would United buy him? He would (fit in at United).

“I think so because I don’t rate United’s midfield.”

Brazil went on to suggest that a swap deal involving Sanchez could be the deal to be had:

“Why not? That (swap) could be the deal then.”

While many Arsenal fans would like to see Ozil leave, some may not like the idea of seeing Sanchez back at Arsenal following his ill departure from the club last year.
