Arsenal suffered a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League’s opening weekend but one performer caught the eye.

19-year-old Matteo Guendouzi made his debut for the Gunners against the defending champions, catching the eye with his performance and showing why he is so highly regarded by Unai Emery and the rest of Arsenal’s hierarchy.

The teenager arrived from French second division side Lorient in the summer, signed for a fee of around £7.5m, and the deal can be identified as a major coup for the north London giants – as The Independent states he was also a top-target for Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

Guendouzi was not interested in a move to either of the European giants though, both of whom will be playing in the Champions League this season, and has proven to be an immediate hit with the Gunners.

He will be aiming to retain his spot in the starting line-up for this weekend’s trip to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
