Arsenal have been incredibly active in the summer transfer market and have secured another signing under Unai Emery, although the latest addition is one for the future.

16-year-old striker Sam Greenwood has confirmed he has joined Arsenal from Sunderland on Instagram, with the Gunners beating Manchester United to the signature of the teenage sensation.

Greenwood was regarded to be the shining light of the Black Cats’ academy, which has developed a number of stars including England World Cup heroes Jordan Henderson and Jordan Pickford, presenting Arsenal with an exciting addition.

In comments posted with an image, Greenwood said:

“Today is the start of a new chapter in my life signing for Arsenal and I can’t wait to get started, I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

“Leaving Sunderland after 10 years, the club I love and support was a very hard decision. I have met some special people along the way, big thanks to Sunderland and all coaches past and present for everything they have done for me. I will never forget my roots.”

Greenwood scored six goals and contributed six assists to Sunderland’s U18 side last season and has signed a scholarship deal with Arsenal – with a professional deal being agreed when he turns 17 in January.
