All eyes are set to be focused on Russia for the next few weeks, as 32 nations from across the globe prepare for the 2018 World Cup.
Defending champions Germany are ranked amongst the favourites to retain their crown but Joachim Lowe’s side were rocked by claims this week that Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil could miss the tournament due to a knee injury.
Ozil, who missed the final games of Arsenal’s tenure under Arsene Wenger with a back problem, has been absent from training in recent days and will miss his nation’s final World Cup warm up clash against Saudi Arabia this evening.
However, quoted by Sky Sports, Germany’s team director Oliver Bierhoff has relieved any concerns about the fitness of the former Real Madrid man.
“It’s nothing dramatic, we just don’t want to take any risks and he was able to sprint in training. I assume he will be okay for the World Cup.”
