Arsenal have been handed a massive boost in the transfer market with the news that a European giant has pulled out of the running for the services of an international midfielder.

Schalke are poised to lose Max Meyer at the end of the season when his contract draws to a close and TalkSport cites reports that indicate La Liga leaders Barcelona have ended their interest in the German international.

The 22-year-old, capped four times by his national side, has snubbed offers of a renewal from Schalke so far and, whilst another offer could be forthcoming from the Bundesliga side, he’s widely expected to be on the move at the end of the season.

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been attributed with an interest in the young midfielder and the news of Barcelona pulling out of the running will come as a significant boost for both Premier League sides.

A move to the Emirates Stadium would certainly make sense from Arsenal’s perspective as the Gunners risk losing Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla this summer, whilst there have been concerns that Aaron Ramsey could push for an exit when his contract expires in 2019.
