Atletico Nacional have released a three paragraph statement denying that they are interested in signing David Ospina from Arsenal.

Colombian radio station Antena 2 reported at the start of the week that Nacional were seeking to re-sign the goalkeeper in the January transfer window. The 29 year old came through the academy at the Colombian club before leaving for Nice in 2008. Nacional have now responded to the reports by issuing a press release:

“Atlético Nacional informs the public that in the face of rumours of the arrival of goalkeeper David Ospina to the club, at no time has a rapprochement or contact with the player or representative been sought.”

Ospina is expected to start tonight against FC Cologne in the Europa League. The stopper has played just three times this season as a groin strain he picked up in October meant he missed the double header against Red Star Belgrade, as well as the extra time victory over Norwich City in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

His lack of minutes on the pitch had prompted speculation that he could miss out on a place in Colombia’s World Cup squad, leading to talk about a move back to Nacional.
