Arsenal have opened contract talks with defensive midfielder Marcus McGuane, according to Transfermarketweb.

The 18 year old has been heavily linked with a switch to Serie A champions Juventus in recent months, while Manchester United have also reportedly been watching the teenager.

McGuane made his senior debut against BATE Borisov in the Europa League at the end of last month, playing the last 11 minutes of the 4-2 win against the Belarusian outfit.

Although he is a holding midfielder, he is equally capable of playing at centre back, having made the majority of his appearances for Arsenal’s under 23 side at the heart of the defence this season. His stand out performance however came as a central midfield player, captaining and scoring twice in a 4-2 defeat to Everton in Premier League 2, which subsequently led to his first senior appearance a few days later.

At international level, McGuane has played at under 17, under 18 and under 19 level for England, but he is also eligible to play for the Republic of Ireland.
