Arsenal target Leon Goretzka’s future lies in the hands of Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, according to Calciomercato.com.

Reports have been circulating since the summer that Bayern have an informal agreement with the player that he will sign on a free transfer from Schalke next year when his contract expires.

The 22 year old has said that such reports are “nonsense” but Calciomercato believe that the only way that Goretzka doesn’t join Bayern next summer is if Rummenigge and the Bundesliga champions have second thoughts.

Whether the sacking of manager Carlo Ancelotti yesterday will make any difference, it is doubtful, as player recruitment lies mainly with the club’s directors rather than the head coach.

Bayern do tend to sign the majority of young German talent, no matter where they play. Arsenal could offer the player more first team opportunities but it seems that at the moment the decision lies in Bayern’s court.
